Hmmm:

When I'm on the road, I fly by mouse - it sucks but hey, there's no alternative. AH works as advertised.

When home, I hook up my X45, and about every 30 minutes I get a period of suspended animation, in which my frame rate drops to 1 or so, vox breaks up, and the controls barely move. This lasts about 2 minutes.

When it ends, I move at light speed across several sectors. This lasts about 30 seconds. I'm convinced my 'puter is still interacting with the host at this point - I've been able to crash and re-up while it's happening, flashing past other aircraft off the runway. Also, last night a lala got onto my tail while I was crawling along in limbo - he managed some hits, then was left far behind as I emerged into my period of light speed.

Anyone else get this? Suggestions?

Yeah, it's weird. Thing is, it only happens when I've got the joystick connected.

this should be in the hardware forum...

is your internet connection usb? a usb cable modem maybe?

are you using the computer usb port directly or do you have a powered external usb hub?

Thx Eagler:

Both the stick and the internet are hooked up via USB ports. The stick goes directly into the back of the computer -  I have an ADSL connection with an appropriate modem, which connects to the other port.

Sorry if this is wrong forum - mods feel free to move the thread.

Edit - My four-year old daughter insists I include these:

:cry   :rofl :D  :o  :furious  :huh  :p  :) :noid

you should try a external powered usb hub

I and others have had different issues clear up when saitek is connected via a powered hub

or can you get a NIC connection to your high speed? USB is not as stable as an ethernet card/modem would be

does it happen when flying AH offline??

Now that you mention it, I don't believe it does happen offline. I don't fly for that long when offline, but I've never encountered the issue while doing so.

Sounds like you may be on to something...

Thanks

Sounds like ploss to me. Get a traceroute program and log the results for a while.
Even if it seems certain that you will lose, retaliate. Neither wisdom nor technique has a place in this. A real man does not think of victory or defeat. He plunges recklessly towards an irrational death. By doing this, you will awaken from your dreams.

Having your adsl modem connecting with usb is a bad situation , it will cause instability in your connection and packet loss and should only be used if you dont have any other option .  If you dont have a Network Interface Card you should get one asap . the 20 buck will save you alot of headaches. 38
