I guess what I like about this new series (asides the exceptional nipple shots on the season opener...no wonder their ears are always errect!) is the extra effort made to show this is a prequel.
Remeber when Star Wars: The Phantom Menace came out and every ship, weapon, etc all seem more advanced than the sequels? I think Star Trek is learning from that.
The ship is more crude, and follows the examples of modern ships...cramped, no spacious 10-Forward and stuff like that. No fancy touch pads everywhere, levers and dials all over the place. Looks more like a submarine, you know?
And when in action, lots of "Can't" 's or "Out of Range". Scan that vessel, can't, out of range, same with weapons, etc. Its nice to see how infantile that vessel is compared to what we saw in 7 years of Voyager (which was an extraordinary series IMHO).
I'm not a huge Scott Bakula fan, I would have preferred an unknown, since whenever I see him, I'm thinking 'Quantaum Leap' and not trek.
Voyager was a remarkable series. TNG was very good, but some of the Roddenberry episodes were a bore. If you watched the TNN 5-day Marathon, its amazing how poorly lit the first few epsiodes were. He had some good episodes, but once he passed and Berman took over, the series took off and the stories improved. Some of the episodes got too "feel good" for me but I did like how they all related to one another. For example, the "Booby Trap" episode, where Geordi consults with the holodeck version of the original engine designer....a few episodes later, he meets the real person (anyone else annoyed Geordi continually strikes out? I mean, lonely, holodeck, HELLO! Mop the floors!

)
DS9 was the worst one to watch. Its too bad it took so long to work into some action near the end. But the politics, Bajoran, Cardassian, etc...I mean, it was a brain teaser to keep track of how was on our side and who wasn't, etc. Plus, add the Prophets stuff and it jsut bores me to hell. I like Sisko, and enjoy how he taught me the word "apifany" or however the hell you spell it
