Twin Stick Tanking

Has twin stick tanking ever been brought up before? You know, driving each track side with an independent stick for added realism.

In reply to the post, I have never heard of anyone in the forums bringing twin sticking up...I think you would have to e-mail Hitech on that what...post your findings though, id be interested to see what he says

I too would like better options for tank driving, including the ability to turn much sharper, or even pivot in place.  Many people have rudder pedals with "toe brakes" which could also be used for tank driving (at least in forward direction, can't see how to get reverse).

How were real tanks controlled?  Hand levers or foot pedals?

Would finally be able to use the old twisty sticks that I wore the rudder sensors out on. ( too much yawing trying to get those LW birds slowed down on final )

Cav... Take a look at what he posted. Then take a look at what I posted. He made a major logical flaw, and I was pointing that out. Why bother coding something to use 2 sticks when most people barely have 1? Flawed idea. I pointed it out.

Nowhere in that scenario am I being a smartass, and nowhere is my post "useless" -- in fact this thread would be useless if people didn't point how that the idea is inherrently flawed.

So bite your tongue and double check the post next time you spout off.

Most tanks were controlled by twin levers, each one hooked to brakes on that particular track. Pull the lever on that side, it brakes the track and the tank turns in that direction.

The foot pedals on most tanks consisted of a Accelerator, Clutch & Brake in some.

NOTE: On tanks being able to pivot in place - was doing some research on my own I found out something interesting on that subject - While the German and Russian tanks could pivot in place to change direction - the U.S. M4 SHERMAN tank (and all vehicles built on that chassie) could not. It had to be driven forward as the direction was changed. If not it would throw a track. First I had EVER heard of that!

Are you serious!? How many people in this game do you think DON'T have a stick?  Yeah I know a few don't..... but out of the entire horde that flys, just how many do you think.  It is not that many....

Since AH supports multiple sticks anyhow it seems like you should be able to put together a stick profile that would do this.  You just need to figure out how to map the axises of your sticks appropriately.

I'm guessing the program doesn't need to be changed at all.  For instance on the CH pro throttle there is a little thumb stick, it uses the second joystick axis to operate.  I have mapped this stick for various things in the past, and can't see a reason why you couldn't map any other stick the same way...

I'm not saying it would be easy... I'm just saying it might be worth a shot if you really want to have twin sticks.

Beyond that, I'm afraid I agree with the others here that recoding the game to support 2 or 3 percent of the users who might have or want multiple sticks in tanks doesn't make good financial sense when there are so many other things they could be programming instead.  It is after all a flight game that has secondary support for vehicles.

Even games that focus on the ground war such as WWII online don't support twin stick tanks as far as I know... And thats a game where the tank battle is the main thing...
