Thats your problem right there dude. I have the same video card and FS2004 works great for me so I don't think thats the issue. The 256MB system RAM looks like it's the problem. I started out with 512 in my machine and FS2004 would get slow on me from time to time. I had to turn a bunch of settings down to get it to work right. I upgraded to 1gig of system RAM and have had NO problems since. That game is a memory hog. Also what speed dose your hard drive run at? I would assume that if it's a "newer" computer it would have a 7200RPM hard drive. If not that can cause problems as well. Have you downloaded any after market / freeware aircraft? Improper installation of those will cause massive problems as well. I paid for the FS Addon Manager program and that works great to upload new aircraft, scenery, and updates to aircraft.

I would suggest that you un install FS2004, then go to your program folders and manually delete anything else that has to do with FS2004 and do a fresh reload of it. Then go back and install any after market aircraft 1 at a time and test the game with that plane before you add anymore, ecspecialy if your doing a manual install of the planes where you are copying the aircraft folders, gages, effects, and moduals into the game. If thats not done correctly the game will eat itself. Do you have the latest FSUIPC.DLL file installed? If not you can get it from FlightSim.com. Create a free account then go to the main download page. There is a "MUST HAVE" file section there that has a bunch of special files needed for using after market files.

I'm pretty good at FS98/2000/2002/2004. I've had them all and have screwed up enough times and reloaded that I'm fairly proficient at it. Hell I have over 100 aircraft in my ready hanger right now with about anouther 150 or so in my zip file hanger. Tons of scenery files loaded and active.

If you see me online on the roster PM me with any questions you have and I'll try to help out as best I can. I fly Knights with the JG44 Night Hawks and we run on channel 117VOX. Drop in if you have questions that way too.

Good luck with it.

Get more ram.

Like ripley said 256 is hardly enough to run XP.

Sounds like FS04 has a minor memory leak and is running you out while you play.

How old is your O/S install?

What did the geek sqaud do to it?

Why did they not beat you with the "need more ram stick"?

While the guys telling you to get more ram are right, if you back off on the eye candy trhe program should work.  If you get the update that I directed you to in my prior post, I think your problem will be fixed.  The patch addresses a memory leak issue and it describes very similar symtoms to yours.  If you have a bootleg copy you're up the creek.
