AAR Squalls Frame 1
« on: January 06, 2006, 10:59:55 PM »
Well that was a wild knife fight from the get go.
332nd Flying Mongrels were slotted to CAP the two task groups up north. I will not get into the arena settings that were off. I am sure those will be addressed by Frame 2. ;)

Within minutes of taking off we engaged higher Ki-84’s. Followed by more Ki-84’s, followed by Ki-61’s, followed by Ki-67’s escorted by Ki-84’s. Our almost all of our squad was shot down in the 15 minutes of unending dog fighting. Having the low visibility really made it difficult to see things at times. I never had time to change the icon color of squadies (which was white). I could hardly see them.

332nd Claims about 13 kills and about 20 assists. :)

Yes it was.....interesting.  The seemingly never ending ammo drove some people to spray for at least 15 seconds.  Being that the axis had cannons compared to our 50 cals they needn't spray much if they were in close.:cry

Don't know if you died or if you got the kill on my F6F after I tried to land it with half a wing cutones.  You chased me for awhile, shoulda stayed on it.

chit happens,

I better not hear a neg word towards the Setup CM.
cause if ya do there will be Sea turtles to pay.

besides we have now lulled the axis into over confidence,
next frame when they over estimate cannon rounds we will smoke them
when they are bingo ammo.

Okay just got finished with ROC, Knuckels, MGD, and 68falcon figuring out what happened.

Basically we have several problems with the map and how tables work. So we are busy ironing out problems with the default setting for the arena. This is were the ammo issue came from. The default map setting of the default table was is unlimited.

All the other maps have it at 1 not unlimited. Problem was once planes take off changing that setting does not change your ammo. So we would have had to all auger to get it to reset for each pilot.

The radar issue was from the table loaded not taking the radar settings from the table. I very old and known bug. I am making all CMs aware of it again and that radar settings need to be set in the arena before the event since the don't take all the time from a loaded table.

Should have made myself more clear, I recorded some of the action and cutones took off my wing.  I was wonderig whether he died or whether he got the kill on me as I tried to land on CV.

It was an interesting frame, problems or no problems.  I had fun and found it kinda suspensfull.  Some of my squadiies didn't like the poor vis though.

We were scouting around A48, moving west toward reports of enemies with me about 1k behind SoloMAW, never saw any dots, but suddenly low behind me were a gaggle of F4U's crossing my flightpath.  I called them out to Solo, and turned to track them as they were inbound to A43 and totally lost sight of them.  Chased all the way to 43 before finally finding them.  At one point before getting to 43, Dantoo calls out all attackers defeated at 43......I say, get ready, more on the way. ;)   Roll into 43 to find many high corsairs setting up thier attack runs, chased one low and got him on the upswing, which was followed by the remainder being quickly dispatched by 9GIAP, CHAWKS and us few MAW.

Waves of attackers came in and levelled the field but thier losses were staggering.  We all rearmed and sortied an attack on the northern fleets.

Poor Visibility?  Who on Earth was complaining about Poor Visibility?  I mean really, the fog was so thick I couldn't see well enough to JUDGE how bad the visibility was!

We actually had a group of fighters vectoring us into the fleet, and by golly, we saw them Just After We Passed them on the first approach lmao

Second run I had a great line and perfect approach to the DDs' however having a head wound (that clearly missed any vital organ I might add) I blacked out Just as I hit the drop button and missed by Inches.

All in All, there is nothing quite like a massive arena glitch to introduce the fog of war element.  We should institute some form of random screw up on a regular basis just to keep everyone awake :D

"We should institute some form of random screw up on a regular basis..."

Lol, I don't think we need to mandate that... Mr. Murphy will oblige. ;)

All glitches aside, it was an interesting frame. "interesting" has been used to describe this frame several times, and I think it fits. Sometimes you get into a battle where just nothing goes right for your side.

At least we get the option of living and learning.

The low visibility was cool.  I enjoyed the 'fog of war' .. there was a low furball right below me that I nearly missed completely.  It must have made bombing hard for some though:confused:

Well I called it Squalls for a reason. ;)

Was not sure how it would work, but I wanted to try the vis to just a few miles. Really adds to the fog of war, no pun intended.  Been hearing good and bad about it the low vis setting.
Frame 1 was 4 miles
Frame 2 will be 7 miles
Frame 3 will be 5 miles

I thought the low visibility was great. We launched as jabo KI61s and formed 3 loose groups abreast to cover more area for the search. At 12K it didn't take long to realize that we would over fly any fleet. 3 planes went down to the deck and reported  that fog was all the way to the water. We dove in skimmed the waves. Just as we found the fleets a swarm of F4Us almost flew by our left side, by the time they turned and caught us we where popping and dropping. Lost most of the squad after that but the 68th had 3 kills and 41 objects destroyed.

I must agree, Low vis kept things much lower than normal.  It was different, and a bit more of a challenge.
