In Germany, some consider cow tongue a delicacy as well - its cut into thin slices and tossed as a salad. Same goes for "Kutteln" - wich are the first three stomachs of a cow cut to pieces marinated in vinegar. Personally i dont know whats supposed to be tasty about all that collagen and fibres besides the dressing.

People eat horse meat... why not cat?

Edit: It was not that long ago that the last dog was slaughtered at the Munich slaughterhouse.

Dohh, Icelanders rule.
On my family dish on a certain winter food festival:
Sheep****-smoked Horse sausage.
Cloven Sheep heads (hairs burned off so they look black)
Sour Sheep balls
Rotten Shark.
Sour Whale fat
Icelandic haggis.

To this we drink Icelandic Brennivin (whose most famous admiror of is Dave Grohl)

Lots of the stuff is homemade.

And cow tongue is a delicatessen. Having one next Thursday. BTW, they weight some 4 lbs.
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

I agree that alligator is very awesome. BBQed alligator tail is the bomb.
As for ostrich, I totaly disagree with it tasting like chicken. Ostrich is more similar to a fine, lean cut T bone. If grilled as a kabob it is best to baste with veg oil or something of that nature due to the low fat content. Emu is even tastier.

I grew up eating cow tongue.

boil it first, remove the "skin" (takes some hard pulling)
Is good hot, but better yet cold. Leftover Tongue sandwiches with a bit of mustard, emmm Yumm!

Racoon is good if a bit greasy.
Beaver is better! (no jokes please)
Snapping turtle makes a great soup. Just a big pain to get it out of the shell.

Do you guys actually like the taste of it or do you eat it just because it's the Icelandic thing to do?

2 kinds.
1 -  Blood sausage. Similar to English bloodpudding. Colour: Black.
2 - Liver pudding. Rather similar to Haggis. Very tasty.

The shark is the real challenge though ;) Like chewing ammonium.
Many people like it (I don't, but it goes okay with shnapps). It's supposed to be very healthy.
It's rotted for a reason. Fresh N-Atlantic shark is namely poisoned.

As for the cow tongue, boil it for some 3 hours, then the skin will easily peel off (cool it first).

Enjoy ;)

Hehe, time to revive this.
Quentin Tarantino was a New year's guest here. Click on his link to hear his opinion on a certain scnapps.
Just hope it works.

As a safe side, go to kvikmind.is and look at the icons on the bottom, you should see Quentin there ;)

Cuy Chactado or Guinea Pig is a delicacy in Peru, Schatzi:aok

That just wouldn't work in north america. the backwoods rodents up here think they have the right to keep and bear arms. squirrel hunting has taken on a whole new meaning.

"Actually the problem is both dogs and cats. There's around 100,000 stray cats and dogs in the city, so people take them by force. It's a big problem."

I fail to see the "problem"

Seems to me they are killing (pun intended) two birds with one stone.

Looks more like they are finding a useful way to solve a problem then to actually be a problem

Side note on that one: I agree fully. In Germany we have many a 'animal lover' that brings home stray dogs/cats from mediterranean countries (some of this is organised and they fly in planeloads of animals).

Problems with that: They bring in deaseases (like the heartworm or Leishmania) to Germany - and no, you can test/treat all of them first.
Those animals have 'lived on the street'. Mostly they have a real hard time adapting to a save family life, if they ever do. Not a small part of them end up put to sleep for integration probs.
We have enough homeless and stray animals in Germany as it is.

If we really want to do something to help those animals, let them live where they are and castrate them, so they wont reproduce thousandfold.
