FYI, the single major influence in it not seeing action, or even production, was that fighters like the mustang, were already in mass production and were going to be very hard to dethrown... While the Jet age, like I said, was already well on its way.
Er what?

I didn't suggest you did say it was based on the Mustang. Krusty said it probably was. What's with the hostility?

Actually I aggreed with what you said and my quote of you was dealt with in a jokey manner in the first paragraph of my post.
A quick look back at the earlier posts and you'll see it was another poster who said it was based on the Mustang. A misunderstanding by you, old chap.
The ultimate reason for it not making it was nothing to do with the Mustang. Hawker, Supermarine and Bristol (to name a few British companies who did have post war piston engined fighters) however, had a firm grip on the Air Ministry and their obsolete designs were able to reach production despite the advent of the jet age. The MB5 for all it's virtues was, sadly, an aircraft too late, from a company with no proven record in fighter aircraft design. Even if it had made it into production, it would've only seen the arse end of the war at best. It may have become one of the ultimate piston engined fighters but there was no point after the war.
