can't find a reference, help? 40th FS/35th FG
« on: January 10, 2006, 02:40:42 PM »
Looking for Jug & Pony skins. Google isn't being much help.

Small world. I met Richard "Rip" Collins today. 92 missions in the PTO flying Jugs & Ponies with the 40th FS. Turns out he's one of our customers. Very nice guy with a good story or two :) I'm more than happy to do the skins if somebody has a reference pic, but I'm coming up dry.

Bio of Richard "Rip" Collins here

His home page. HERE

He would fit in here, he has an opinion.

Some information on the group with a few pictures.

40th FS/35th FG Mustang.

39th Fighter Squadron of the 35th FG Mustang profile here.

You can also check out the 35th FG P-51 on page 62 of "Mustang and Thunderbolt Aces of the Pacific and CBI" by John Stanaway.  I am sure Dan can scan it and post here.  I don't have a scanner.  Also page 57 has two P-47Ds in 40th FS colors.

It looks like they kept the same basic markings throughout with the 40th FS having red noses.

Good Luck.

The names of the irrelevant have been changed to protect their irrelevance.
The names of the innocent and the guilty have not been changed.
As for the innocent, everyone needs to know they are innocent –
As for the guilty… they can suck it.

Biggest difference was the nose color and tail tip markings for each squadron of the 35th FG going back to their P39 days.

39th had blue
40th had red
41st had yellow.

Otherwise the basic color schemes were the same.

Good stuff Fencer :)

Ah Master Guppy, your library is as extensive as your knowledge is great.

Gonna have to break down and buy that scanner.  Last one I bought in 1990 was $800!  Bet I can get one cheaper now :lol

Thanks guys! Gonna try the 3rd one first, the -25, then go back and do that first one since it'll be easier for me to add the green & black later. Off to Paintshop!

Well the last one's "okay" but the first one has those eye-catching black stripes (sweeeeet!)
