Wasnt sure if this belonged here or in wishlist, but decided on this forum. If I'm wrong, lemme know, HT....
We currently have the Douglas DB7 airframe in 2 iterations: the Boston III (classed as a bomber) and the A-20G. Both these are in the timeframe of Combat Tour, both could conceivably be part of missions in that game, and (hehe) both have some interesting variants that would be fun to have.
Boston III's came with 4x303s firing forward, a flexible 303 in the nose, and a dorsal 303. The Boston Mk. III (Intruder) aircraft retained their transparent noses but were painted matte black, equipped with flame-damping exhausts, and fitted with a belly gun pack housing four 20-mm Hispano cannon which supplemented the standard Boston Mk. III armament. These operated from mid 1942-onwards with Nos. 418 (RCAF) and 605 Squadrons. These airframes were not night fighters, were not equipped with radar, and operated as night attackers/bombers (analagous to the night usage if Lancasters).
Please wipe the drool off your monitors, "Kiss my Havoc" squad members.
Now, for the A-20G we already have in AH2. The A-20G first delivered in February of 1943. It introduced a solid nose armed with four 20-mm M2 cannon with 60 rpg and two 0.50-inch machine guns with 350 rpg. The four cannon were grouped in the forward part of the nose and projected well forward of the nose, with the two machine guns further back in the lower part of the nose. This new nose was introduced as a result of combat experience in the Pacific, where glass-nosed A-20s had been fitted with field modifications to increase their forward firepower during low-level strafing missions. The A-20G retained the 0.50-inch flexible machine gun with 500 rounds in the rear cockpit, as well as the 0.30-in or 0.50-inch tunnel gun. 250 airframes were copleted with this configuration, but because the 20mm was prone to jamming, most of these versions were sent to the USSR (we already have a skin!) and the solid nose was instead loaded with 6x 50s.
I'd love to see these babies in AH2, and both are just gun modifications of current airframes.
