Computer Locks when Flying

Since the last release of Aces my Desktop has been completely freezing/locking up when I start flying. Sometimes it locks up immediately, sometimes I can fly for 10-15 minutes before it locks.

It will usually let me go for an hour if I'm in GVs or staying only in the tower; but once it locks up once, it will lock up faster the next time.

When I say 'Locks Up' I mean: The screen freezes, there is no keyboard input nor mouse input. CTRL+ALt+Delete doesn't do anything, I can't switch out of the screen. I have to turn the computer off and back on at the power button.

Computer Info:
Vid Card:      Radeon 9200
Chipset:       Intel
OS:              Windows XP: SP2
Ram:            512MB
Processor:   Pentium 4 2.99GHz

If anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate it.

Sounds like a heat issue to me, whats your stuff running at degree wise?

Downloaded SpeedFan a month or so ago.

Temp1: 91F (33C)
Temp2: 103F (39C)
Temp3: 92F (34C)

After sitting for a half hour undisturbed.

I haven't been able to check the temps when it locks, because.. well. It locks. and I haven't been able to figure out how to read the logs it keeps to find out what's happening when I freeze. After I've turned the computer off and restarted, Temp1 and Temp3 are similar- Maybe one or two degrees higher, and Temp2 is running around 115F (46C).

I was told once that that temp wasn't high enough to cause a lock up?

On the clipboard, select Setup>Pref>Voice and check the "Use Wave In" box. This will cause the game to have a VERY small skip with every vox transmission you make, but may solve the problem. If that doesn't work, undo it if you want.

Those temps are good, but generally temps will climb in AH. When I had my problem, I ran 42C normally, but went as high as 68-74C when in AH, AH just makes your machine work harder.


I'm just awakening into computer hardware, so don't take my advice as law. However, why don't you try posting your Direct X diag so we can see any IRQ conflicts or driver issues.

Go back to the basics, I'd read both of Skuzzy's sticky posts at the top of the Tech Support forum just to make sure your rig is 'souped up' corectly for good gaming performance. If nothing seems to work, mail your DxDiag report to Skuzzy at support@hitechcreations.com , maybe he can find the needle in the haystack and get you up and running longer.
How do you connect to the net? Dialup or broadband? Wired or wireless?
