Don't these people have a job?

The funniest (saddest?) thing I saw at these protests on TV was this 20 year-old guy wearing a red shirt with a yellow hammer and sickle and the words CCCP or USSR. Apparently this idiot protesting for worker's rights, workplace safety, and environmental safeguards somehow thinks that communist governments give a flying diddly about such things. Former Communist parts of Eastern Europe are some of the more polluted parts of the world, there are chemical wastes, radiation hazards, etc. As for worker's rights and safety well lets just say communist countries did not invest extensively in latest safety devices and training.

Honestly where do these people get their ideas? At my college there are apparently teachers preaching the virtues of communism/socialism and the evils of capitalism. What are these people thinkig, have any of them lived in a communist country? I have, and well I think they are diddlying Idiots and I hope for their sake they mature soon.

Alot of them are "professional protestors"

Alot are there just for the thrill of confronting authority.

Some might even actually be there for 'the cause'

Perhaps some of them might actually have a point - the news services only concentrate on the idiots, because the flailing battons and flying bottles make great viewing.

Peaceful demonstrating is the cornerstone of the democratic mandate - without it you might as well be living in China or North Korea. Their streets are very peaceful - oh, yeah, and their torture chambers and jails are full.

Some people if they don't like a situation will go out and demonstrate against it - I admire them and actively encourage it. But I dislike immensely the idiotic fringe who not only trivialise any legitimate point being made, but endanger our right to demonstrate.

At first, my initial thought was about the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution... ya know... the part about "right to assemble"... but on second thought, it's Canada. They don't have that piece of paper standing in the way of conformity of the masses.

I've been living in Washington D.C. now for six months. I work with quite a few people who take leave and extend lunch if a protest suits them. So... believe it or not... some of these people hold jobs. Of course, I can't speak for Quebec.

Next county or something isn't it Liz?

Back on topic that wasn't a protest, it wasn't an assembly, it was a riot.

There actually has been pretty good coverage of the people's summit (the meeting of those opposed to WTO, NAFTA, etc) all week.  I don't agree with a lot of what they want to present, but I've no problem with them at all.  They were going to have a meeting with the summit leaders, but since a day was lost to this nonsense it's probably not going to happen anymore - thanks to about 500-1000 twits.

Eagler, prolly 90% of the demonstrators don't know why they are there and if you asked them what they believe and why they are there to "fight" you will walk away scratching your head as their answers would dumbfound ya!!

I challenge the media to get these idiots to speak on camera.  Then America could see what their hard earned $$ buy at US universities!!!!  Prolly 5 years from now these demonstrators will have kids, a good paying job, house, and expensive car.

They will also have lotsa questions regarding their past beliefs!!  Nothing like the real world to add perspective

1776 = 'Peddler of Disillusionment'

"It's not a state of mind, it's a lifestyle!"

What a grey, bland world you must inhabit.

BTW, where does this 90% figure come from? So you did a survey that was biased to your viewpoint? Or is it another unsubstanciated assertion?

You are saying that 90% of the people who demonstrate are idiots. So demonstrations are 'stupid'? And then you worry about America being less free, or the commies taking away your country?

LOL
