Selling off some old movies on eBay, including BFC
« on: January 23, 2006, 03:57:07 AM »
The movie shelf is getting crowded. I should have bought a bigger house! But I'm having a clear out. One of the movies I'll be selling on eBay is the Oscar Award winning Bowling for Columbine. I watched it twice, and watched certain sections more than that. Time to move on!

When listing certain products on eBay such as DVDs (and even motor vehicles) there's a useful feature which allows you to plug in a description from eBay's database of descriptions. For DVDs, you enter the EAN code (don't know what that means) which is the number to be found on the bar code on the back of the case. This saves the seller from having to do his own write-up of the movie, list all the characters etc. It's all done for you. So I was surprised to find that the plug-in description for BfC ran something like this:
Quote
Guns in America are used to kill an average of more than 11,000 people per year. This death toll is obscenely out of balance with other first world countries, which generally average a total in double digits. Experts and analysts have pointed to America's bloody history as a reason, but how does that explain the lower murder rate in Germany?
I was aware of the UK's homicide stats, but I never realised that non-US first world countries generally averaged a double digit value for gun homicides.

One thing that eBay doesn't do for you is to choose the movie category. When I'm ready to list items, I generally look for something similar to get an idea of which category would be most suitable. What I found was that the major category for all the other copies on sale was the same: Documentary. That's strange. I thought there was a campaign to have this changed, but no - I checked the case and there's a sticker which reads "Oscar Winner  - Best Documentary Faeture 2003". Oh, OK then.

I wonder how much I'll get for it - probably not more than £5.

I always liked the zeke and the f6f with the little skeleton inside for my aquarium.
