Game freezes in 262
« on: February 26, 2006, 01:37:35 PM »
I am seeing a pattern of problems flying 262s.  Three times this month the game has frozen up.  Twice the freeze up occurred with no nme in the area.  I just had a freeze up after shooting past a low plane and hitting it.  I also lost a jet after a close high speed pass on a bomber where on my screen I was clear the nme bomber tail but got a collision death any way, but this last incident is a different issue.

I do not get game freezes under other circumstances, so I wonder if the reason is related to the speed, and a problem updating the information and accurate information.  I have tried turning my ground detail all the way down.  I go off squad vox when flying jet now, so bandwidth etc won't be taken up by vox transmissions.  All other graphics sliders are maxxed.  Frame rate is 40s or higher when I get the freezes.

First two freezes when no planes around game just froze.  Freeze today ... right after the pass (within 50 ft maybe closer) Saw 30 sprites ... pulled stick a bit  ... saw bit of red ... then freeze ... continued to hear sound for 10 secs or so ... then heard sheet break ... got Lost TCP UDP and You have crashed message.  Sucks.

Here is my system:

Athlon 3400+ dfi lanparty gforce3 UT chipset I think 754 socket chip.
Nvidia 6800 UT graphics AGP.
1 gig of some expensive platinum memory pc3200 I think.
Serial ATA hard drives but I do not have RAID set up.
Creative Xfi platinum sound card.
Viewsonic p225fb Professional series 22 inch CRT monitor.
Running 16 x 12.

Bellsouth DSL lots of bandwidth 70 ms lag most of the time.
Static IP address.
Westell modem.
Have most sheet turned off in background when gaming.

I know that in a thread in a different forum that Skuzzy said, for best gaming experience in the MA, turn on Port Forwarding for your router, and allow ports 2000 - 5000 to be opened on both UDP and TCP. ( http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=68316 )

The other thing, the Jet froze for me back in some older days about 6 months back. Mostly because of the high speed and all the trees around. My memory wasn't able to process the jet's speed along with all the upcoming scenery. And I know MA maps have A LOT OF TREES!

Although your system's memory seems to be very high, the only other reason I can think of, is your internet connection. That it actually generates the freeze somewhere along the ISP route.

But, first of all, try Forwarding Ports 2000 - 5000 on both UDP and TCP to your system. That way traffic on those ports can reach your computer without being blocked.:aok

EDIT: By the way, just thought of something, do you perhaps have an Anti-Virus and an Anti-Spyware service on your computer? Viruses along with spyware/malware can generate pop-ups and freeze your computer for an un-disclosed amount of time.
