if you say move someplace "more hospitable" meaning better climate, fine, but then it gets overcrowded there.

then also the ones left "up north" have to pay even more because there will still be the same ammounts of roads, just less people to take money from.

can you say catch 22 :lol

SHHHH! I'm trying to get more people here to help pay for the 10 lane expansion of I-10. :noid

I'm thinking Secretary of State would be nice for me on your 2nd term.  You know a move up from press secretary.  I'll get a hotter intern.. maybe two.

My great great great grandfather was a secretary of state, so I'm a legacy.  I'm automatically in.  (He was also a demo...)

people who lived in areas that needed more road maitenance would pay more fuel tax or have worse roads or both... sorry...  I'm not paying for your roads with one exception...  some amount of all fuel taxes would go to the national highway system.  All national highways would be in equal repair/disrepair.... live near a highway and elect the local officals that do what you want with the local roads and you should be just fine anywhere.

as for vouchers?   welllll... schools..

This is difficult but... I believe that everyone realizes that it is in the best interest of the country to have educated (or opportunity to be educated) children.   The present property tax would also have a enterprise and openly viewed account that went to education.

This is slightly backwards but works out in the end fairly.... when we are young and having children.. we don't pay much property tax but as we age we make up for it... those with no children of course still benifiet from educated America.

How would the money be dispersed?   Tell us where you want your kid to go to school or have the school bill us.  If they meet minimum results (testing) requirements... they can get a check... Of course, probly no public school at this time would make the cut but they could work on it.

see, i think a better solution to the road issue would be a flat national gas tax that covers all roads (US and state highways). with the national tax, it could be lower overall, but still generate the total ammount of funds.

individual state taxes on gas would then pay for town roads, and all the others. again spreading it out would ease the burdon.

but i do believe the national should pay for the highways (some highways are 2 lane roads, like 41 going from up north all the way to florida)

also, gas tax monies can not EVER go for anything else, if there is a surplus it is divided nationally. if there is a surplus 2 years in a row in the same area, the taxes are lowered by law.

to prevent highways depts from wasting money to ensure the same ammount next year, you gave the answer. private contractors, in bidding wars.

we are saying the same thing.   National highways paid for by a portion of the tax.. local state roads payed for by local gas tax.

No gas tax money to be used for anything but highway maintenance.  All highway work to be on 1-5 year contracts by open bid.
