Saddam, Defense Team Walk Out of Trial
« on: January 29, 2006, 10:45:05 AM »
I still say it was a mistake taking this guy alive to put on trial.
From what I've read the average Iraqi doesnt understand why he is still alive either.

The only proper way to have dealt with this is to put him on (Iraqi) national TV and for some top official to put a bullet in his head.
The rest of the world would not understand it or find it acceptable but I beleive the arab world would.
These people just do not have the same mindset as the rest of the world.

Saddam, Defense Team Walk Out of Trial
AP - 1 hour, 13 minutes ago
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Saddam Hussein's trial turned chaotic shortly after resuming Sunday, with one defendant dragged out of court and the defense team walking out in protest. The former Iraqi leader was then escorted from the room after shouting "down with the Americans" and refusing his new court-appointed lawyers. Seeking to assert tight control, the new chief judge Raouf Abdel-Rahman pressed ahead with the proceedings even after the opening drama, hearing three prosecution witnesses before adjourning the trial after 4 1/2 hours.

Former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein has walked out of court just minutes after the resumption of his trial for murder.

The following are key extracts from his heated exchange with the new presiding chief judge, Raouf Abdul Rahman, as reported by AFP news agency

[Saddam denounces the court as being run by Americans and says he and his seven co-defendants will reject any lawyers appointed by the court.]

Saddam Hussein: "Anyone appointed by you we reject them. This is my right, to give up my right to an attorney. [pointing at the court appointed lawyers] If you stay here you are evil people. This is my right, don't force me."

Judge Rahman: "I am not forcing you."

Saddam Hussein: "I respect you as an Iraqi, unless you have given up your Iraqi nationality."

Saddam Hussein: "I want to leave the court."

Judge Rahman: "You do not leave, I allow you to leave when I want to."

[Judge Rahman orders him to leave]

Saddam Hussein: "You are an Iraqi, you cannot order me like that. I led you for 35 years."

Judge Rahman: "I have practised law for the last 35 years. I am the judge and you are the defendant, you have to obey me."

Saddam Hussein: "I understand my rights and the rights of the others. The defendant is innocent until proven guilty, that's what we learned in the law while we were students."

Saddam Hussein: "Down with traitors! Down with America!"

[Saddam is led from the court]

one way or another he is going to die.... plain and simple.

Till then, he can keep dancing like the monkey he is.... it is rather amusing and kinda reminds me of another monkey, one who is on this board.  They both don't realise that their sole purposes now is justification.  The first for the death penalty for despotic tyrants, the second for birth control.

Unfortunately, they need to find the iraqi with the biggest set of balls and make him judge, but they have not.  A good judge should not tolerate ANY bull**** from Saddam.  The moment Saddam even sneezed the wrong way, he should have been held in contempt and put in an assraping prison for the night.
