K-Lite plays everything (real included), and there's no adware if you get the player only (eg, no encoding) software or get it from free-codecs.com instead of from the K-lite website.

Why, name one technical reason why?

I use Nod32 and I like it. It's not bloatware like Norton, F-secure etc. which are worse than viruses themselves (by eating 50% of system resources).

Heres one good reason Viruses.

I had McAfee and Norton both on this computer when I had a 20 gig hard drive, I upgraded to a 120 gig hard drive and installed NOD that a friend of mine told me about, well everything went just great, then the hard drive died from a defective bearing or something, so I out the old 20 gig back in that had 2 antiviruses on it, I didn't even get on the internet, just uninstalled both A/V's and installed NOD, it went crazy before it was even done installing finding viruses that Norton and McAffee both had let pass through onto my computer, 3 in the system volume, 2 in the boot section, and one that was just waiting for me to open an email.

O kso I pay $35 a year now instead of $25 for Mac or Norton, but you get what you pay for in this world, NOD rules. Try it, the free trail is fullblown workable. It works perfectly with VLC also

Sorry, but thats not a technical reason. Thats heresay from improper configuration AND most likely lack of updates. First you had both Nortons and McAfee ontogether, Nortons can interfere with other AV software. Secondly it sounds like a 'fresh' install of NOD, up to date that is, versus old installs... how often did you do the updates.

9/10 bad user experiences with AV software are the result of the user not keeping the software up to date.

Theres a german university that runs regular AV comparisons, nod and mcafee are always at the top.  Check out av-test.org. Proper methodical tests say you are wrong.

Try again (remember my job is in the security/av area)

9/10 softwares that are not up to date are not doing their update routines right.

I know I bought a boxed Norton which failed to update straight from the box on a new computer.

Nod32 updates several times per day. ;) Without user intervention. :aok
