Feb. Close Escort "Italian Stalemate"
The Gustav Line held up Allied advances in Italy. So many set backs plagued the Allies as they tried to breach the line that the landing at Anzio became a necessity. Air support for the entrenched forces was critical, and raids on supply and support depots carried out and bombardment in preparation of assaults performed with diligence in the face of a strong Axis defense. The war in Italy approaches its zenith during the Italian Stalemate.
