Issue with ATI mobility 9700
« on: February 07, 2006, 02:00:19 PM »
Have a friend that is having trouble with what I assume to be either a GPU driver issue or AGP driver issue. I'll admit this isn't Aces High specific but was hoping someone might have had the same problem.

When starting Aces High it takes from anywhere between 30 seconds and 4 minutes for it to crash to desktop. I can get the specific message but I believe it was a generic "This program has performed an illegal operation" or something to that extent.

It's an SiS chipset and I have downloaded the latest motherboard drivers, including AGP, and installed them after removing the current ones and any graphics drivers.

We have tried both the drivers that came with the laptop and Omega drivers with no success.

This is a generic laptop, not a Dell or the like. I'll have him get his dxdiag info but if anyone has a simple solution in the meantime that I've overlooked it would be appreciated if they could clue me in.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Skuzzy,

I passed the news on about the c-media card being the problem and I had a brainstorm. I sent him off with a USB headset and will have him disable the sound board installed in the laptop. I've used these headphones for about a year with no problems so I hope this can maybe help some other folks out.

This is at least a cheaper, in this case free, solution to his problem in the meantime.

Thanks again for the email!
