By the time I'll be forced to upgrade to Vista, OpenBirds will be released, and I've no reason to stick with Windooze.:)

Doubt it will be any good, but since its available for mac ill try it at some stage. The developers will prolly be fed up and quit before its even close to beeing as good as the "commercial alternatives"

I wish them good luck tho. :)

I'm still running 98SE with no problems whatsoever.

Yes I have a copy of Xp around, in case I ever go stone fricking crazy and want to install it. Building a new machine this month, heck I may even do a dual boot just for kicks. But I bet if I do I'll still spend 98% of my time in good ol 98.

If you build it right in the first place, then load drivers right it will be solid as a rock. If you screw it up, take shortcuts, or mix & match things that shouldn't mix and match. Then yes it can be a real sob.

Instead of the computer telling me what it can (and will) do I tell my computer what it WILL (and won't) do.

Its a control issue.

Interesting, but I agree with Nilsen, a project of that size and scope would be diffcult for open source.

Do you believe that Aces High will shift to nothing but the Vista platform?

I give the project the same odds as to the Chairboys Cozy. It won't be as massive as AH, but it will have planes and a theater that are of interest to us Finns(in the first phase). AFAIK it allready has a working flight model, but much of the visual stuff is to be made. It's going forward slowly but steadily. The guys making it are long time well known flight sim veterans here, and they know what they are doing. Also I don't think they'll be fed up because the whole community is supporting them.  I think it'll take a few years before it's a playable MMOG though.

DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

[open source rant on]

Open source seems to work best when it provides useful tools that can be used in numerous programs like image compression(libtiff, libjpeg), file compression(libzip),database(mysql) type stuff.  The use of such tools make sense since there is no point for the developer to reinvent the wheel.  Plus having such tools as open source gives a developer a chance to make modifications if needed.  What does openbirds offer to the developer cummunity?  Not much, unless you're a student trying to learn a little about writing an online game.

[open source rant off]

back to thread....

anything else bad about Vista?...  :)
