Frame 1 - Debriefing

FRAME 1 - Review

Initial numbers for frame one favored the Allied side by a significant amount - 32 players. The squads were split into even sides and each side had the EXACT same number of players prior to frame 1.   After reviewing the logs it is clear that the ALLIED squads were at the higher end of their commited numbers while the Axis side was towards the lower end of their commitment level. Furthermore, one ALLIED squad fielded more players than the rules allow. Rules state that you may field +/-2 players over your commitment level - any more and your side is subject to a penalty.

Scoring for the event was difficult as several players did not honor the one life rule. The rules in the objectives stated you have one life in a tank and then one in a fighter. Several players did not follow that rule. Frame CO's and squad CO's make sure you read the objectives and the FRAME CO notes carefully - not following a rule can cause penalties to your side. Continuous rule violations by a squad will result in that squad being suspended from FSO.

The frame itself was fun for me - I hope all had a good time. The Axis bombers were slaughtered earning 345 points for the Allies in that one battle. If the Axis had better numbers perhaps the escort would have been stronger .. Squad CO's talk to your members and get them to show up.

The ground war looked pretty intense with the Axis side coming out on top - 19 T-34 kills to 11 Panzer kills. I did not award points for ANY player who spawned after thier first life, however if a player was killed multiple times I did award the points to the opposing side.

Allied wiped out both of their objectives.

Axis side wiped out one, the second objective was undamaged.

Frame CO's. Thank you for your efforts.

Final Scores

ALLIED

1410 points
-100 points for penalty

1310 points

AXIS

775 points

The FSO Team will be contacting certain players and squads before Frame 2 to ensure that all Squad CO's know the rules.

The NE runway at A4 (as I recall) launched the 327th in the middle of the tree forest with no runway resulting in our pilots Wing and Zulu acquiring 4 and 2 deaths respectively.

The rest of us immediately towered out and relaunched from the hangar.
That's 6 unearned deaths for them.

That launch bug should be corrected before frame 2.

100 point penalty is all that is assessed for the multiple lives and roster exceedence?

Seems kinda small to me...but then again...who knows...

Points were not awarded to the Axis for any planes crashing on take off at A4.

The bug is map related and will not be fixed for Frame 2 or 3.  It was pointed out to the Frame CO to instruct players to use the 'H' button to start.  A second e-mail was sent out to the Frame 2 Allied CO as a reminder.
Points will not be awarded for any playres who end up in the trees at A4 for the next two frames.

Penalties and points were a hot topic the past few days.  I do not want to single out anybody - but the FSO team has been in contact with players who may not understand the rules of FSO.

Points were also not awarded for kills or bombing done by those people who did not understand the 1 life and 2 life for certain planes / vehicle rules.

Not sure if also off the top of my head if Skernsk wipe out all the points those people earned.

Basic result was an additional 300 points (roughly)  thrown out the window and then another 100 taken for good measure.

So like a 400 point penalty to the Allied side.

Plus, as Skernsk said he and Nefarious are talking to the individual and squad(s) involved firmly explaining what they did, what they need to do to rectify it, and what will happen if it happens again.

On an another note I would like to point out that sometimes stuff happens that are outside of anybody's control. By this I mean that the Allies attendance was on the high side of the range while the Axis was on the low end of their range.

This resulted in the Allies having a 30+ plane advantage which skewed things later in the frame.

Basically the Axis did really well. They hit one of their targets very hard. Leningrad was basically untouched. I don't know if the escorts were lighter than expected for the JU88 strike on Leningrad because of low turnout but another 15 - 30 Axis planes in the frame would really have turn things about.

While the Axis saved Leningrad they did not hit either of their targets very well at all. The Allied HQ and City were taken down after T+60 by the surving Leningrad Allied Defenders and others.

An additional 15-30 allied planes could have done a couple of things:

[list=1]
  • The Leningrad Defenders would have stayed in place at some force level to defend against a late frame strike or end run attack instead of being let free to attack the Axis City and HQ.
  • The additional Axis planes could have provided additional defenders that could have lasted longer into the frame preventing the scrafing attacks on the city and HQ.
  • Additional Axis pilots could have provided a stronger escort to the JU88s strike resulting in some of the bombers getting to target.

It was a close thing, it really was and it was only really turned later in the frame when the numbers really went against the Axis. The Axis did a great job but being down by 30 planes is tough to over come.

Now, let me also say I am not blaming anybody or pointing fingers. It happens. I have been on sides also in FSO where for no discernable reason squads on a side field their low side of numbers then the next frame they are back to normal.

I know if skernsk says if frame 2 the Axis turn out low again he will move a squad to rebalance since then it would not be a fluke.

So right now let me give an incentive for Axis turnout. Anybody who shoots me down will get a prize. 68Falcon will buy them drinks all weekend long at the upcoming AH convention in October. ;)

Seriously remember guys people in your FSO squad don't need to be members of your squad in the MA. Nightmares have members of several MA squads flying for us in FSO. Feel free to ask anybody you want to fly with you (as long as you do it before the actual event starts in the SEA).

Also if you go over your max +2 limit for your squad remember you can always parse out your extras to other squads on your side instead of telling them they can not fly.

Think you got your sides mixed up here but..

That was completely by design amigo. Serious. Just says the target has to be *attacked* by T+60--not totally destroyed. I figure that's what the other '60's for. Sayin'.  :aok

You mean the Axis didn't save Leningrad? ;)

Okay, okay the VVS did. And yeah, I know that was the plan to make moderate attacks on the Axis facilities before T+60 and then follow up later with a post T+60 attack with other forces.

Just pointing out that with an additional 15-30 pilots things would have been a lot tougher for the VVS. Either stronger defense of Axis Facilities or heavier screening escort of the JU88s.

If this is 9GIAP you are referring to then please examine the logs again.  The squad had enough to be one above quota for the day.  A player volunteered to stand down so that this would not happen.

327th indicated they were short and happy to take aboard our extra man.  The player advised that he was more than willing to fly for them for the sake of broader experience and to avoid the dissapointment of not participating at all.

He immediately contacted them and flew with them.  He however neglected to relog after accepting an invite and thereby reset his squad tag.  The logs showed him as fielding with 9GIAP which he definitely did not.  He only participated with and for the squad he flew with.  His failure to reset his tag was not noticed by us at the time as of course he no longer appeared in the squad radio list.

9GIAP did not field above quota.  One player with a 9GIAP tag failed to reset this on the server.  Big difference.

I get really really tired of selective realism disguised as a desire to make bombers easier to kill.

We are not referring to the 9GIAP, We are referring to another Allied Squad.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Yep, and it is being handle via email between that squad the CMs involved. Wasn't done on purpose and probably a misunderstanding so need to make it a public discussion.
