my 2 cents: looks just like play money, and is so over-hyped, it makes me want to shout at the ants... so it´s whopping 0 points from me for the euro. cheers, jan.

Pretty much all the people I know who work in the City (London) have been trading in the Euro for the last year. The ones who will miss out in the UK, are as usual, the consumers.

Time will tell Animal. I've done some travelling across Europe during 2001, and plan to do the same this year... just that I won't have to change currency, so I'm pretty happy with the Euro!  :)

I've been using it for a year now (I own a small company), but actually getting your hands on it is a completely different thing  ;)

People like it, people don't... but well, like it or not, the Euro has come and it's here to stay  ;)

I hate it. Finnish mark was a big part of Finland IMO. It was like the national anthem, finnish flag and the finnish mark...now we lost the mark...I wonder when we lose the anthem and the flag too...    :(

Luckily Sweden stayed out of it.

I have some greek in my heritage and I, for one, am sorry to see the Drachma go.  It was the worlds oldest surviving currency still in use.

Some collector paid €200 for a €20 bag that they sold at those kiosks. They were sold out in hours and are now a collectors item (unopened, mint condition  ;))

Personally, I like it.

Both design (perhaps a tad too colourful) and convenience. For you U.S. types, just think about an independent currency for each of your states. Intraeuropean commerce will be loads easier now and that will benefit us all....fiscal policy permitting   ;)

My € 0.02 (now that I can use this properly)

Cheers,

Pepe

S!

Yep, we've lost part of our independence by moving to euros, but OTOH EU got more unity. Perhaps it's good perhaps bad, time will tell. When Finland loses it's Flag, I'll move to Sweden (no kidding!     )

And what our StSanta thinks about Euros?
Danmark..no Densk...no DenMARK has it's own mark?    :D
