And the repeated question is because so many moronic americans refuse to believe that we will NOT tolerate guns coming across our border. Hence we consistently have off duty cops, security guards and schmucks actually LIE about having weapons because they refuse to part with them.

BTW enjoy Mexico- I am sure you get along MUCH better with their cops compared to ours <snicker cough>

 Sorry,

I have known alot of Canadians in my lifetime. While I will say that they were all hosers    NONE of them came across as elitist or errogant as you.  Funny I always thought Canadians were nice people, are you a transplant from another part of the world?

Too late Tailslide, one of them lives in Toronto already, next door to the QB of the Argonauts at that.

As for our "border security", if you made the mistake of actually driving through one of the checkpoints, tought luck to you G.I..

Even my old man, who is a 30 year vet. Cop, and x-president of the Canadian Police Association has been hauled into the little room and had his vehicle stripped at the border.  I.E. the guys at the border are power tripping salamanders.

I go to the US about once every two months, and I don't bother with the legit entry points anymore.  If you are in the BC, AB, or SK area, drop me a line, I'll tell you the GPS cords where you can drive right across SANS border checkpoint.  All that seperates our contries in most cases is a 4-6" ditch.  No toejam.

I lived in Canada 90% of my life, and was born here, however a lot of my family is from Arizona, and they are always shocked when we tell them to be sure to take the pistols out of the glovebox before driving up here.  I've owned a good 50 firearms here and Canada, including semi-auto rifles and handguns, and other than not being able to carry them for defensive purposes legaly, owning them isn't that big of a hassle.

One advantage we've got is that there is NO laws regarding artillery.  The local gunshop here in Calgary has a 14.5mm Soviet anti tank rifle you can pick up for under 1500$ USD.  WHEEEE!

Oh man I'm realy sorry TS!  The USA has done Canada a great injustice!  You guys were nice enough to send us 1/2 of our comedians here in US and all we send you back is draft dodgers and The Baldwins.  Hmmm 2 John Candy's don't make up for 1 Baldwin.

 Sorry!

Udie,
I hope you're not calling me a draft dodger.  I'd go to jail as a consciensious objecter rather than skip the rules and bag for Canada.  Back when I was a RepUbLicAn I enlisted for the USMC as infantry (was in the college of electrical engineering at the time.  the recruiter thought I was nuts to pick grunt with my education).  The main road in Guam is called Marine Drive, and that's because of 1944, and I thought I should pay my dues.  As it turned out I was disqualified on a medical.  Shocked the hell out of me - I wanted in.  I even spent over $400 for medical tests to get a waiver, but nothing came of it.

So, if you're calling me draft dodger material, I expect an apology from you.  If not, then all's well.

Heard this morning that Baldwin said it was rumor that he said he'd leave...sounds like a cover  up to me...anyways, CONFIRMED rumor is Elton John said he WOULD MOVE to the USA if GORE was elected, Oh Joy!  Maybe he'd find himself at home on Capitol hill in Seattle??

Gees, I don't know.  Probably no more than on Main St. in Sumner.  I think.  Actually, I have no idea what you're driving at ...

Oops sorry bout that Leonid, I quoted the wrong post.  I though I was quoting Tailslide's post which was just above yours.  I would never call you a draft dodger. I didn't even know that you were American, much less old enough to have served in Vietnam.  Sorry for the confusion...

Editted Leonid, I meant Capital hill, (although the University district has its share of, for the politically correct folks,  interesting alternative lifestyles)

Main st. Sumner? hehe, they all moved to Capital hill.

Not a transplant Udie. Neither am I much of an arrogant either and I try to avoid elitism. However Mav has attacked my Squad leader in 2 threads and hopped in here to try another cheap shot at him. Then he started in on my country. Everything I said was the plain truth- about border crossings and the attitudes and problems with guns at the border. One thing to keep in mind though is that Canadians stopped apologizing years ago- we have strong opinions and my generation isn't afraid to say them.

Udie,
Ahh, okay, no problem    BTW, I was 10 in '68, so about the only thing I could have been in the Corps is a mascot    No, I thought you were making a loose analogy about draft dodgers and myself.  In any case, cheers

Ripsnort,
Okay I see where you're going now.  Well, I'm not very fond of Capital Hill either, but only because it's always so crowded - parking is a nightmare there.  BTW, Queen Anne (the other hill) used to be a nice sleepy place along with Belltown back in the early '90's.  Now it's like a Bellevue beachhead

Sorrow,

Don't know who your squad leader is, what squad you are in nor do I really care. If you think that because I make a post that cotradicts your squaddie and that that is an attack, you have some problems to work out.

I say what I know, have seen and experienced. You thought to lay a baseless accusation that I some how "provoked" the treatment I received at the hands of the canadian border official. Nice of you to make assumptions about it. To my knowledge you weren't there and can't have anything of substance to say about the incident. Of course you "know better" don't you.

I was already aware of the gun issue and didn't bring a weapon with me at all. I did have my PD identification with me which he found when I was told to empty my pockets. I was then quized on who signed the card (the chief of police) and the picture was carefully checked to make sure it was me. Nope I didn't provoke anything. My buddy, his wife and I refered to the officials as "sir" and "maam". The female officer was polite, professional, pleasant and had the decency to walk away from her "supervisor" shaking her head when he started his little dictator act. That particular individual was talking to 2 people who had about as many years of law enforcement experiance as he had out of the fourth grade.

At the time I was looking forward to seeing your country and having a new experiance. What I got was an education in how to turn visitors into life long antagonists. I was ready to get back on the ferry and go back to the states without having gone any further into canada. The conclusion I reached in visiting canada was, pretty countryside but the inhabitants are worth avioding. You confirm it for me. You "seem" to take it as a point of pride that your police officials are "salamanders" or those with an "inferiority complex". Perhaps that is all they have to choose from.

Yes I agree, You are arrogant.

Mav

CNN today: US Declares war on Canada!

Already, thousands of Canucks are running for their very lives upon a invasion by US citizens armed with semi-auto hand guns and fully automatic weapons (and in some cases, Nukes, biological and chemical weapons, and several 'demil'd F-16's) Unfortunately normal sporting arms and lack of fully automatic assult weapons have lead the Canucks into hopeless firefights.

Canucks overrun the government with the rally cry "We want unregistered artillary pieces and we want them now!"

For futher coverage, rent "Canadian Bacon" starring Alan Alda and John Candy.

If yer gonna go to Canda, fly in and land at a private landing strip. All the bootleggers do it, so should you

Canadian Bacon is an awesome movie.

I don't know about other Canadians here, but I have lived in Canada all my life and not once have I ever seen a gun, or a crime involving illegal weapons.  I for one, am damned proud to live in such a country.

I can walk down the street at any time of the night, by myself, without worry.  I can travel to other countries and not be afraid of volience directed towards me.  I am welcomed anywhere in the world, with open arms.  Canadians have made some of the greatest contributions to world peace, founded the United Nations, have some of the lowest crime rates and best education systems in the world.  On top of that, the United Nations has appointed Canada as the best country to live in, on Earth, several times.

I for one, am proud to be Canadian.  It IS[/i] the best part of North America.
