Dead band and Damping
« on: February 14, 2006, 10:16:16 AM »
Hey guys
Was playing around with a new pc at the weekend and when I was setting up my stick, I noticed the above options on a slider bar.
I have them all the way down as they were like that when I first logged on.
What exactly do they do?

Dead band slider is used for when your stick gets old and worn out..and the center pot on your stick is loose (not a stiff center position)..  if its loose, you raise the dead band up  (it controls the "spiking" you get with a loose center pot)
Dampening is used to slow the input down on the stick..  IE If you move the stick ever so slightly one direction and you get a response that the plane is banking very hard (or fast), you want to turn the dampening up so the control inputs arent so sensitive

Deadband: This is the easiest of all. As little as possible, as much as neccessary. Start with the slider all at the bottom. Watch those blue boxes with the lines to the right. The lines should be all smooth and straight when you dont move your Joystick. You even should be able to gently wiggle your stick in its center position with out them reacting. If you see any spiking there, add a little deadband (millimeter by millimeter) untill they stay smooth.

Damping: This adds an overall 'sluggishness' to your JS inputs, kind of like a small temporal delay added to the reaction to stick input. Depending, if you have a rather light hand on your stick youll probably want this to be as low as possible (i got mine all at the bottom). If you feel your input is too touchy overall, raise this slider (try small adjustments at a time).
21 is only half the truth.
