La-5FN
« on: February 15, 2006, 06:24:00 PM »
I don't know if this is of any interest to anyone here (you may already know all about it) but I've recently acquired a copy of 'Luftwaffe Test Pilot' by Hans-Werner Lerche. This guy was a sort of German Eric Brown in that he flew everything he could get his hands on in WW2. Unfortunately, his remarks about the aircraft are mostly very vague, but the book does include a copy of his detailed report on the La-5FN, including performance and handling notes. Useful in constructing a sim I would have thought.

Hi Tony,

Good description!

The problem is that except for the La-5FN report, all of the original documentation on his test flights was lost (or rather purposefully destroyed by the Germans), so he could only rely on his memory. I guess with the records intact, his book would have become an exact counterpart to Eric Brown's "Wings of the Luftwaffe". Since the latter is one of my favourites, I feel cheated! :-/
