AH Clouds - What for?
« on: February 13, 2006, 10:04:08 AM »
Why is it that we have clouds in AH if they are not going to hide anything?

Flying through clouds has almost no effect on visibility for planes in icon range. There should be a great reduction in visability range when inside the clouds, and icons should be cut to less than 500 yards.

Clouds are fine to see and do hide dots at long range, but I think clouds should be more realistic, otherwise, why bother having them?

If the cloud is thick enough, it completely conceals the con!

yeah, unless they changed them in the pase few months, last time i flew through clouds they made the icon disappear completely, and you only saw a shadow of the plane when really close.

i actually have some sweet screenshots at home in formation in the clouds, 50 yards away all you saw was the outline of the plane.

I was killing some 14K buffs last night, as I climbed through the cloud layer at 15K his icon faded till it was barely visible. It made it difficult to determine his exact direction. The clouds do have an effect.

Not long ago I was in a hide & seek fight.  My Yak vs. a 152 in a thick bunch of clouds.  Was one of the coolest fights I've been in.  On some of these maps, however, there's a small spot of clouds here, small spot there, but not very usefull for anything tactical.

if I'm flying in the clouds, the con in front of me disapears but if he was beside me the same distance that he would have been in front of me, he would be visible plain as day.

Why is that?

It bothers me that some of these clouds seem to just hang over selected bases for the duration of the map.  Shouldn’t they move around?  I seem to recall they did in AH1.
