Newbie needs help starting at a base
« on: February 19, 2006, 09:05:45 AM »
I'm on the 2 week trial version and have played some flight sims before and want to get back into it. I get the plane loaded out and I'm trying to figure out how to get to a specific base and take off from there. I figured out what country I belong to (green rook?). I managed to get up 2 or 3 times yesterday but dont know how I did. I clicked on bases but when I go to deploy I keep getting the same message that my plane cannot operate from that base yada yada. What am I doing wrong? Are there different icons for different type bases? If so which one do I need to click on or is there some other way?
              Thx ESS5.

There are vehicle bases (V and number) where you can not take off from. Airfields (A and number) are the ones you should be in. You can double click a base on the map to get there, or you can type in the radio ".move 59" where you substitute the 59 with the desired field number. When you're in the hangar (or in the tower) after selecting your ride, click on the direction you want to take off to, for example N in the lower left part of the clipboard. I hope this helps. :)

Hey bud,
Welcome to Aces High.

Press the ESCAPE (ESC) to bring up your clipboard. Use the INSERT/DELETE keys to zoom in/out on the map. You can left click and hold on the map and drag it around inside the clipboard.
Double-click(left mouse) on any green base to go there.

You can now prepare to move to the runway to flying your plane. Notice in the lower left corner of the clipboard a box containing buttons.

The box is labeled DEPLOY. The buttons in the box represent the runway and direction you will take-off from. Not all fields have runways in all directions, so only the available runways are shown.

The H in the center of the box lets you roll the plane from the hangar onto the runway, while the buttons around the H allow you to go directly to a runway.

Select one of the buttons around the H and left click on it.

Right-click over the map and a list of options will be displayed. Click on "Show base names (I think)".
Now the base designations will be shown on the map along with the base icons.

Base types:
Example: V20  The "V" designates that the base is a Vehicle base. You can only operate vehicles from these bases.

Example: A20  The "A" designates that the base is an Airbase. You can operate vehicles or aircraft from these bases.

I highly recommend that you check out the link I have provided below which will contain alot of usefull information.

Again, welcome to Aces High!

One other cause, which hasnt been addressed here about your not being able to fly from your field, is that the enemy may have taken out the flight hangers at the field your trying to take off from.  If this is the case, in the airplane selection list, you will see the plane names in red color.  If they are red, you know the hangers are down and you cant use that field for take off.
