Joystick question Logitech Wingman
« on: February 21, 2006, 01:54:17 AM »
I need to ask what is wrong with Logitech sticks? I have/use a Logitech Wingman force 3D and seems fine to me. Have had the thing for a few years now and just not sure what the difference is.
The reason I ask is, I have gone though these forums so much and have read negitive response on using Logitech I just dont see why. It has a rudder control, 8 way hat, 4 on stick buttons, Throttle, 2 buttons on base and a trigger.

Am I missing something in the control factor????

quality

buttons and hat can die really quick after 3-4 months of using
rudder catch loose
same for X and Y axis
poties are low quality, easy  get dirt inside and need to be cleaned often and often.
thats make stick less and less precise also stick start spike really bad

Weird...I have had it for 4-5 years and works fine. Maybe a fluke. Used it extensivly with Klingon Academy so I would have thought it would wear out by now.

Asilva looks like you have one of the good old ones.

There is a steady stream of people in the TA with logitech stick problems.
Most of them are only 1 - 3 months old and have developed major spikeing problems. Broken hat switchs, etc.

Logitech used to have a good name but they have pretty much done themselves in recently.  I used to be a logitech fan, loved their mice.

I don't even trust them to get that right anymore.

My first stick in AH was a wingman and for the most part I liked it. It was smooth and flew well then after 2 months I had to turn the rudder off, it started spiking so bad I couldn't make it down the runway.
From the ashes of the old we rise to fly again. Behold The Phoenix Wing!

I had a wingman pro stick. It was increadibly bad and a great letdown after I was used to the only good thing carrying the Microsoft name - the old MS FF stick.

Its biggest problem right out of the box was bad "accuracy". By that I mean it had a very short travel and a big dead zone in the middle. Meaning, every tiny deflection translated into a hard manuver in the game. It was extremely hard to fly "on the edge" without loosing control. The dead zone in the middle (and weak centering force) make you bounce the nose every time you switch from pull to push of the stick. Flying out of elevator trim was a nose pogo nightmare. I replaced it in the store claiming it was a defect but the second one was exactly the same. The two problems combined made me throw it away brand new.

The 1st thing I now check in a stick is a good travel distance and accurate centering force minimizing the deadzone in the middle. Too bad that almost all sticks sold around where I live are .... Logitec

yeah i can hang pretty well until the fight gets super slow and stalling..than its just too sloppy to maintain any slow speed manuver

<--Bought LogiCRAP stick.

LogiCRAP stick starts spiking in general after only a few weeks use.

LogiCRAP stick sits amongst a heap of spare parts.

After that experience I bought a Thrustmaster Top Gun Fox2 Pro.  After a year and a half of steady gaming, it still works well, although a spiking problem has developed when I push the stick to the left.

buy logitech at best buy get protection. I like the stick because with limited use of legs, i cannot use rudder pedals. and trying to get use to stick that had rudders on throttle after useing twist stick sucked. Its true logitech sticks work good for about 3months if you use it alot, and will work for most other games but flight sim. as rudder always gets small spikes that make aiming tough. I just pass out old sticks to kids in the hood.
