Recurring error
« on: February 24, 2006, 04:15:55 PM »
Hi there,

I have an older system (3 years old) with win xp home.

Lately I have been getting the same error when I try to load software through the CD drive. It states:

Setup is unable to decompress and copy all of the program files needed to procede with the installation. Contact your sotware vendor. Error 112

This has happened with several different pieces of software that I have in the past loaded up. I delete games after playing due to limited HD capacity.

Anyone have any ideas about what this means? I have done a restore to a previous date and that didn't help. Virus checks, spyware / malware checks are negative as well. There is also plenty of room on the HD for the game as well. The CD will open the disk and I can select files to look at, it just won't install.

Sounds to me like the CD drive has slowed down to the point where it can't keep up with the computer's demands. I've never heard of this though; just a hypothesis.

Try this link Mav. This is what I came up with when searching for your error code there. It seems to be a common issue it sounds like you really need to just step up and buy a newer higher capacity hard drive.

The installation temporarily takes much more space than the actual game. If your HD is already so small you need to delete stuff regularly it's long due to buy another 500 gigs of storage space. $300 later you'll be happy again.

500 gigs? Jeebus, I'm only using 40/120 now... Maybe if he does professional video or something, but from his first post, I doubt that...

This is not major software I'm trying to install here. One is a Hoyle casino simulator from a few years back amd the other is my copy of Delta Force 2, I have had both on the same machine before. I am using a 30 gig HD with 10 gig free.

I don't think it's the HD. I'm more inclined to think it's the CD drive as the darn thing has has synch problems with sound and video on game video sequences. Since the system is 3 years old and wasn't "cutting edge" when I built it I haven't tried to put any really new programs into it. I'm still using software I had before we sold the house 2 years ago. You know, C&C, MOH and COD type stuff.

OOZ there's no such thing as to much storage space. I currently have about 400 gigs and it's 75% full. Given the current pricing storage space can be upgraded at a very reasonable cost.

Actually, there is for the common user. The more stuff that's on there, the higher the chance of errors and such.

What makes you think that? The amount of data has nothing to do with error rates.

have ya tried cleaning the cd disc drive? checked for bad ribbon cable? switched the cable out , ya never know.......

also, I have found sometimes is better to slow the drive down to say 8x speed vs high rate of speed 24x, 52x, etc.... when trying to load software/files/programs from disc...to prevent errors......

that being said, are you using generic winblows CD drive drivers, or are you using the correct manufacturer driver for your CDRom drive?

doh.read the MS support link posted this thread..theres a valid answer possibly :-/

Reschke and Tequila,

Cleaning out the temp files did the trick. I did the disk cleanup and still had the error. After going in and manually deleting the files as the MS site indicated I was able to load the old Hoyle games programs. Thanks much for the help!
