How to get the Brewster in to the game...
« on: February 24, 2006, 05:39:57 AM »
Ok fact is we all want the Brewster in the game and there is no good sub for it.

HTC will not put any priority on a plane like the Brewster anytime soon. MA focus is late war. Japanese and Russian Fighters&Bombers and German Bombers should be the prio as its where the huge gaps are.

This community has tons of tallent. We have seen it in the areas of skinning and map making. Im quite confident the community could create the Brewster 3d model, the cockpit 3d model and skin it.

What HT would need to do then would be to tune its stats.

Personally I do think this would be a great way to get the "special" scenario and AvA planes into the game while HTC focuses on upgrading current models and adding new models with focus on ToD and the late war MA.

Would enyone be up for this and is there anyone who could have this discussion with HT?

Tex

Last I knew HTC would not accept a player supplied aircraft model.  I was wondering myself if that might possibly be reconsidered, there is now an object editor for the maps so I was hoping they might branch out to accept aircraft at some point int the future.

Although I am not entirely certain of the feasibilty in regards to AH, put player supplied models has made a large and I believe positive impact on many other sims.

This would be a great boon for the AvA and possibly allow for greater depth in the upcoming Combat Tour.

I'd be willing to give it a try if the opportunity ever presented itself.

From a game-creation standpoint you want to make everything yourself, especially if you have to tweak things to reach certain threshholds for the game engine, or if there are quirks in the smoothing or surfacing that only HTC staff know about. These things are just not easily done by an outsider. Also, if an outsider does take the time and make something, how will we know if it's in scale? How will we know how to test it? How will we know if the geometry won't work because of the way the sunlight works in AH? Or how will we know if we can even get the right shape at all?

There are too many variables. It's a good idea, but HTC has said, in the past, it's not practicle for them.

I'm not disputing the fact that it may be impractical for AH, but I don't see any shortcomings in the player created models of Il-2.

It would also have to be something structured like Warbird's Player Development Corps.  I'm not saying it necessarily would be a good fit for AH, but you have to question it knowing how many other successful player submissions there are.  Whether it's models in other sims or things like maps/skins in this sim.  I know I don't have all the facts but taking a superficial look at it, it  appears to be a   wasted resource, imo.

Clipping from another sim's recently released update, recognizing player contributions, just for a point of reference.  In fact most of the update is to include player created models.

Question: would the F4F be a better sub for the Brewster?

the six .50 lasers make it far more formidable than it should be armament wise.  since there can be no brewster it's a shame there is no F4F-3

Come to think of it, didn't most F4F4s have 4x 50cal? Weren't the outboard guns often omitted for more ammo for the inboard guns, or something??

I've often wished we could submit our own models of aircraft that HTC doesnt seem to want to include.

But then I would be working on the IAR series and the early Russian fighters until I went blind, so maybe its a good thing... :)

I like this idea. Don't know if it's feasable in AH, but I hope so. Some of the people in the TheBug list play in AH (eh, Nibbio? ;) )... and the 4° Stormo pilots made an amazing job in creating the italian planes in another sim.... I like this idea!

If you could make planes and host them in h2h land that would be cool, since we can already do that with skins that everyone can see if you download em why not 3d?

Since Axis vs Allies is succeding because of community development as it is why not take it to the next level and allow player submited work?
