CH Fighter stick
« on: March 01, 2006, 08:50:56 PM »
Didn't there used to be a "Control Panel" for the CH Fighter stick?  If so where can  get it?

I have my stick set up but can't cycle through the Lights to add other set ups.  Seems I'm only using 1/3 of the stick.

Any advice, direction or help most appreciated.:aok

Do use CHctrl manager?  You can google it or find it at the CHproducts website.

Be warned, people have mixed results using with AH2.  Some it works ok, others its a headache.

Not me, I always used the CHmanager, CHM 4 is a great tool and for the most part any scripting or programming is possible. From auto wep to linking throttle with rpm to get the best fuel consumption etc...

I can't see what conflict there could be between the CH manager and AH2 stick mapping...

Even if there were no issues, why bother?  There is nothing you want to do that cannot be done with the AH utilities available ingame.  AH is very CH friendly.  All you are doing is adding more overhead to your system running one more process in the background when you have no need to.

I think most people that had problems were probably close to overloading their system with too much stuff running as it was, but ditching the Control Manager software solved their problems.  You cant argue with results.

I'm not bashing the CM.  As far as stick mapping utilities, its one of the best available.  I also recommend CH to anyone who will listen.  My gear is going on 10 years now, and still works great.  You just dont need the CM for AH.  Its a waste of resources.

Can you in one keypress cycle several radio channels ?

Use the micro-stick to have differential power in the P38 ?

Toggle zoom if the key is pressed for less than about  .25 seconds and ignore if pressed longer ? (same for the C6 key)

I have many things set up for my HOTAS using CH Manager and mapped mode that can't be done with a direct map through AH.

There's no overhead or 'resources' to worry about. The manager shuts down after you load your map. In mapped mode it creates a new single device.

I don't think you are bashing CH, I just don't think you have any idea how useful the CH manager can be (especially 4.0) and what powerful tool it is if you understand how it works.

CH has to be the best. Programming the stick directly using CH allowed much more than the game can. The game programming is excellent also if you don't have the CH capabilities. I am completely HOTAS unless typing messages but even then I have a few buttons assigned macros which automatically say, "in", "off" "cc" and "buggin".

I wish CH hadn't cheapend their product by removing the "flash" capabilities they had with the analog gear. The fact that the stick/throttle will not hold the download is a big negative. Otherwis, they are great.

If you put the CH Contrl Manager your start-up it will load the last profile you had running when you shut down your computer.

It's true that the stick itself doesn't hold any programing but unless you move your CH gear to another computer after each shutdown I don't see it as a problem.

I've had a full CH USB setup for over two years now and I can count on one hand how many times I've had to re-cal in AH. The stability of the CH Gear along with the CH Manager has made me a fanboi for the CH USB HOTAS/Rudder setup.

You're right.  I cant do all those fancy things.  I still use the number keypad for my views (except when taking off I use my 4 way hat), I still have analog gear, I dont have a separate throttle, and quite frankly wouldnt know what to do with all that junk if I had it.  I have extra analog gear for backups should my current setup fail.  Unless I for some reason run out of ability to install gameports on my computers as I continue to upgrade, I forsee no reason to "upgrade" to USB anytime in my lifetime.  I'd still be running Windows 98 if it wasnt such a PITA to do so.  About the only thing I might add to my system is a Track IR, and the jury is still out on that one.  I've been using the number keypad so long my fingers know where the keys are without even looking.  Actually, before installing a Track IR I think I'd buy another Nostromo gamepad.  The only reason I havent replaced my old one is that I cant find the N50 anymore, all they have in stores is the N52.  Just like you guys I'd never have to touch the keyboard again unless typing, and I still wouldnt have to worry about installing any secondary programs to do what AH can do all on its own.  :)

All that with only 4 buttons and a 4 way hat.  Nyah.  lol
