I'm going to side with Mav on this one. The .44 would be a better revolver overall.

On a sidenote, I just purchased a Springfield Armory XD .45. Nice handgun. :)

Isn't .357mag still the king of one shot stops?

It's been awhile since I've read anything on it, but iirc several years back when one of the gun mag editors was testing various rounds, the 125gr Federal .357mag was top dog, with .45ACP and .40S&W coming up next in line.

All that said, my carry gun was a Colt Goldcup in .45ACP.. and after I get around to getting my permit renewed I'll be carrying another 1911 in .45ACP.

Nothing beats a big slow slug of metal for putting someone down.  The problem with using .357's as a carry weapon is overpenetration.  They are designed to go through a car door and still do damage to the occupant.  .45's are designed to drop you where you stand and do enough damage that you either wont be getting back up again, or if you do you'll be seriously inconvenienced.  While I do have a .357 as my main "home defense" revolver, its always loaded with .38 glasers.  I'd never choose .357's as a personal defense round.

Kimber too pretty?  mine is a nightstand and suitcase and everything else gun... it has a lot of scratches and stuff on it but none of em seem to make it shoot badly.

I like a Kimber for .45    There are lots of good .357 wheelguns the best is the smith 340pd to carry..  it weighs 12 0z and will fit in a front pocket as easy as a cell phone...  For big revlovers I like my cut down  and despured redhawk in 44 mag... the 44 mag is the best comprimise bettween a manageable round in a small package.

I have a mossberg 500 for home I also load .38 glasers in my .357 walkabout but I carry a speed loader in the car with remington golden sabers, the flying ashtrays ones.

pfft that's because your only real threat is the cartoon haters. all you really need is a pork sandwich to keep those moslems from attacking you.  a surrender flag should handle all your other needs.
