Cougar owners with rudders; I need help
« on: March 12, 2006, 09:13:26 AM »
OK I haven't done this in a while but I have just gotten my rudders working again after upgrading them to Cubpilots Hall Sensor mod for TM RCS pedals. I downloaded Slapshots profile that he modified from Revvin's old one. However in AH I can't get my rudders to work at all. Also I can't set them up with AH stick mapper either. Here is Slapshots .tmj file.

Cougar owners with rudders; I need help

If your rudder is plugged into your Cougar (joystick port on the stick), it will look like it is part of your Cougar.  You should see the Z axis on your Cougar in the AH joystick setup.  You need to set the Z axis of your Cougar as your rudder in the AH setup.

I don't see anything in Slapshots file that should effect the rudders.  The last Curve statements change the output of the axises.  If you add a curve statement for the Z axis, you can change the sensitivity of your rudders.  I see these statements are Rem so they are remarks and not used in this stick program anyway.

Thats what I was thinking to but after trying it again this morning I get nothing in the Z axis however the rudders work perfectly well in every other flight sim from LOMAC and Falcon 4 to IL-2/PF and Comanche vs. Hokum

Whoa, this set-up seems to be quite old: no THRottle_RANGE statement and the analog values still in the original 'reversed' sense - you must have noticed this when flying, haven't you?

Instead of using a lindworm like

Rem Throttle Settings allow full range with WEP being engaged after the last indent
THR 5 39 (0 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 16 18 20 22 24 26 28 30 32 34 36 38 40 42 44 46 48 50 52 54 56 58 60 62 64 66 68 70 72 85 86 100) LOCK(THR,100%) LOCK(THR,96%) LOCK(THR,93%) LOCK(THR,90%) LOCK(THR,87%) LOCK(THR,84%) LOCK(THR,81%) LOCK(THR,78%) LOCK(THR,75%) LOCK(THR,72%) LOCK(THR,70%) LOCK(THR,67%) LOCK(THR,64%) LOCK(THR,61%) LOCK(THR,58%) LOCK(THR,55%) LOCK(THR,52%) LOCK(THR,50%) LOCK(THR,48%) LOCK(THR,45%) LOCK(THR,42%) LOCK(THR,40%) LOCK(THR,37%) LOCK(THR,34%) LOCK(THR,31%) LOCK(THR,28%) LOCK(THR,25%) LOCK(THR,22%) LOCK(THR,19%) LOCK(THR,16%) LOCK(THR,13%) LOCK(THR,10%) LOCK(THR,8%) LOCK(THR,5%) LOCK(THR,2%) LOCK(THR,0%) ^ WEP ^

which reduces the resolution of your input travel to 36 steps for the analog output, and the resolution of your analog output to steps of 2 respectively 3 percents (with the values being reversed, BTW: the sense has been fixed ages ago), you should rather use the THRottle_RANGE statement (which has been introduced with v.2 IIRC) to compress your throttle's full analog range to the travel range of e.g. min. to something before the max. (I always use 90% so I don't aengage WEP any time I just want full throttle):

USE THR_RANGE (0%, 90%)
THR 5 1            (99 100) WEP

This way you'll keep the full resolution of the input as well as of the output for its full range!

Just a suggestion...

Yeah ULF I did notice that but haven't went so far as to start working on a new throttle code because of the rudder issue yet. BUT since you just dropped it in there I will gladly use it in the code for the throttle now. THANKS!

Lemme know if you should like to have an automatic air-brake function at the other end of your throttle, too ;) .

For your rudder, there are two things I can think of.  First open the Foxy Joystick Analiser and see if your rudder is controling the bar on the bottom of the screen.  If not, open the HOTAS Cougar Control Pannel to make sure you have your rudders mapped to one of the first 8 axes (I think DX only sees 8 axes).

If your seeing the rudders move in the analizer, you should see them in the AH joystick setup.

Good luck,

Gunner

Already done that Gunner and it shows in windows, Foxy and in CCP. I just saw this before I left for work this morning is that in AH it shows the "Z axis  (0)" where all the other axes have numbers inside the parenthesis in the stick setup function ingame. Tonight once I get the boys to bed I will get to spend a little while screwing around with AH seeing what the deal is. Oh and at the moment my rudder function is residing on my range knob.
