1. Windows provide even more convinient ways to control services running on your system than this program. You just need to look into Windows manual.

2. This progam allows you to shut down some processes and services but the problem is: you have to know what service you can shut down! And if you have no idea about SERVICES in Control panel I bet you don't have a clue what services are crucial, and what are not.

3. 99% of services running on your computer by default don't affect AH in any way. I would say that only antivirus soft plus firewall really affect it. And if you got some improvement in your connection it means that you turned off your firewall.

4. I am working for Internet game industry, and responcible for connectivity, security, etc. About year ago we made some experiments, and they showed that it usually takes about 10 minutes in average before your computer will be attacked from the Internet if you have public IP. If your firewall wasn't running , and you hadn't apllied the latest  patches, you got a problem.

5. I would like to give you advise: never ever again use your computer for access to your bank account, credit card transactions, any sensitive information.

I may be wrong, and you know all that stuff even better than me. But in this case you would better tell us what services you shut down. It would be more useful.

Get the program and LOOK at it!  It tells you what most services DO!  Very few aren't explained.  As to programs you can always look here

http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm

as to what affects your computers while running AH.  Sorry but the more things your  CPU has to access each cycle DO make a difference when online and flyin in AHII!

Skuzzy has tried to explain this in his tech support thread.

Guess AHII is very GPU/CPU/net (all very related) intensive.

Some people are seeing differences using these programs.

I agree with Wrag and Fugitive that FSAutoStart is a great app and have been using it for a couple years.

Do I permanently turn off unecessary Services through Control Panel?

Absolutely, I have 25 services set to start automatically.

Do I use MSconfig to limit startups?

Absolutely.

I still use FSAutoStart to temporarily turn off 15 more services and 10 programs that I don't want off permanently; such as AV, Telephony, Win Fax and Print Spooler.  They all restart when I exit AH so I never forget to restart important apps such as AV and I don't have to reboot.

Note: This might help only if you get rubber bullets all the time. It didn't help any problems I've had with 30mm rounds lately, and it didn't improve much else, either. I haven't had many problems, though, so I'm not the best test subject.

Just because windows built the system doesn't mean they know whats right for me or maybe for some others out there too.

Yes, I checked this program. Idiots wrote that but I will fail to explain you why.
Just couple of examples: you don't need to have running Workstation and Server services when playing AH. More over , it is better to have them turned off for security reasons. But the developers of that program don't know about that.

And about Windows. They definitly know more than you what is right for you. Just because they wrote this program, and know how it works. You don't know that.

Ya they know whats right all right, thats why most people use FireFox now instead of the "Awesome" browser they have. They don't know how I run my computer nor can they possible be able to make everyone happy and "tweak" there computer how they want it.

You don't like the program, don't use it! However, don't jump down someones throat for suggesting a very good alternative to problems some people are having with their computers.

Fugitive, I don't need to use this program. All I need operating system allows me to do.

And let leave Microsoft aside, I use and work on linux. HTC doesn't like Linux, so I have to have Windows for playing.

But I do know why some times all news blow with "new virus attacks millions of computers around the world! Downlod new patch, or you will be the next tagret! Hackers threaten the US most secure networks! WW3 is about to begin!" and so on.

And all of that is just because some morons downloaded some very useful "free" program.

Sorry, it is the part of my job - to save the world after downloads of such programs. May be I have some bias but I have excuse - even playing AH I sometimes get a call and, instead of killing Shawk, I have to save the world again.

Little bit get tired.

What makes you think that the "MORONS" using FSAutostart don't keep their computers updated?

I don't know why calling people you don't know childish names makes you feel big and important just because they use an app you don't like.  I also don't see how I am creating any security risk for you by using it, alone causing WW3.

Don't worry, I won't be calling upon your genius to save me from anything and certainly not to save the world!

Tonite was the worst rubber bullets I've seen. I don't know if the new ISP is twiddling the dials or what to try to improve things, but at least from where I connect (Los Angeles via SBC DSL) there's no point taking off.

Several of my squaddies have quit since the move.  I hope they will be back and the new ISP gets things cleaned up.  They've had rubber bullits also.......they just quit until a resolution of this matter comes to fruition.

I myself connection wise have problems with 1DallsLevel3nets first hop.  I get through Chicago fine on CHIlevel3.net at a 30ms ping rate.  I hit the first hop on dallaslevel3.net and Ping rates increase by 200% and the route keeps constantly changing at that point.

Well thats great for a computer "Genius" like you, but for us normal folk whos IQ is soooooo far below yours that we are "Morons" this is a great app.

As far as my computer not being protected, thats a load of crap. I take care of mine as well if not better than you possible do, tho not knowing you personally I can't be positive. I am not paranoid as some who are trying to "save the world" from all the malisious software attacking my computer....there are thousands of hackers looking for my info I'm sure  ....

Today FSAutoStart is a free app, but someday it may just be part of a hugh software company that will rival "Microsoft", everyone has to start someplace. Having done my home work on this program I have not found any where that people have been crushed by malware/spyware or viruses using it. Davenrino has used it for 2 years and he hasn't posted a single complaint about it. I would rather trust a "community" of testers than the inflated opinion of a single person.

As I said before, if ya don't want to use the program, don't! But don't come in here and call people names for trying something new and then posting their favorable results.

comment on FSautostart......

just installed it today.....

it freed up over 125 Meg of system ram.....
my frame rates, even in a heavy furball didn't drop below 55.

As for rubber bullets...I can't hit the broad side of a barn even if I were inside it.

Still seem to come out on the dirty end of collisions...but, I digress

Downloaded it and began using it yesterday.

First off, once you see how to use it, it's not too difficult.  Allow your cursor to scroll over the "Services" and "Programs."  The program will give you a description of the program and advise whether to take "No action" or turn it off.  I always select "Stop and Return."  Once complete, you need to select which .exe (AH executable), you want this profile to work for, then save.

Now, instead of just starting AH, you open FSautostart and hit "Start."  The program will then begin shutting down all of your unnecessary programs and then launch AH.  Once done with AH, the program restarts all of your programs and services.

I've noticed a substantial increase in frame rates (maybe 33%) and a lot less misses when I actually line up a shot.  Don't worry, I still suck, just at a reduced level...:aok

Pile-It: Well Chief, I got good news and I got bad news.

Crew Chief: You lost the plane? Give me the bad news first.

Pile-It: There was this P51 strafing our base and I guess he didn't think I could catch him in that lame Fw190. So I split-essed onto him as he made a run and ended up right in position. 250 yards off his tail and steady at that range.

Crew Chief: Sounds good so far.

Pile-It: Then a friendly appears on the field so I start firing at the P51 to kill him before he could vultch it.

Crew Chief: And?

Pile-It: Well, I'm saddled up and the P51 is just about in range to vultch. I unloaded all 4 20mm's and the 2 13mm's. The shells passed through him, no hits on him at all ... they hit the friendly plane on the runway, I got kill-shootered and the P51 got the credit. Only way they could hit that plane was to go through the P51.

Crew Chief: Holy crap ... so what's the good news?

Pile-It: Looks like the bullets weren't rubber.
