I'm considering going high-speed Comcast broadband .
Problem: All my USB ports are in use by my CH Pro FighterStick, Pro-Throttle and Pro-Pedals and Keyboard.

Therefore, Comcast suggests plugging their cable into my Network board's RJ-45 connector socket (This board is installed but not currently used)
"Fast Ethernet Adapter, 10/100M PCI"

QUESTION:
Will routing Comcast thru this board create a "Choke" point that wouldn't exist using a USB port?

My overall objective is to increase frame rates in AH2.
Getting 33 alone in cruise, 12 in furballs.
Connected at 53,296 bps via modem.

Using:
Pentium-4 1.7 Ghz
516 MB RIMM Ram
Nividia Gforce3 Ti200 64MB

Routinely enter AH2 through FSAutoStart which also selectively turns off un-needed WinXP background Services & programs. (User configured)

You can use a T 100 interface card, which would be faster than a USB port.

Get one K of ram and a 128 AGP video card while yer at it.

As Ed said,
faster connection will not improve your frame ratio!

So change video card and add 512 Mb of ram
I belive cheapest one you can conside is Ati9600XT 128 mb
its gonna give you 70 fps in crusing amd around 45 in large furball
massive take off around 30 fps

also, to increse quanity of USB ports use USB HUB or just install one more USB card ( i belive its 5-15$ depends how many ports). But remember about having good power supply

You definately DO NOT want to hook broadband up to your computer with USB. It will cause all kinds of problems.

Pick up a NIC card, as someone mentioned. Will work much much better.

Using the Ethernet connection is better then using the USB connection.
I'm surprised Comcast didnt say this to you themselves. Then again on second thought...no Im not.

I used USB wth my cable connection for quite some time without any real problems to speak of untill I hooked up my router and had to go ethernet.

And why needlessly waste a USB port when you have a thernet adapter already taylor made for high speed communication

For 1 you dont have to install comcasts crappy software or any special software to get it to work.
If your running XP windows should automatically recognise the connection once you have registered your cablemodem with comcast and they activate it.
If it doesnt. and the guy on the phone doesnt think to do so. Just reboot your computer.
Was over a friend of mines house while he was on the phone with comcast. and the clown on the phone was having him do all sorts of things to try and figure out why he wasnt getting a connection.. During this time I kept telling my buddy. "reboot the computer" Well he didnt and just kept listening to the guy on the phone who finally put him on hold. All the while Im telling him. "Reboot the computer"
so finally the guy comes back and says he has an idea to try and tells my buddy......."reboot the computer"

use your existing r-45 10 100 port or buy a faster card ... usb "Sux" for a connect port .. it also can cause a bottleneck with your irq's and other stuff for a "Clean connect" Hispeed connect doesnt really help frame rates but it does make the game run smoother...

One thing i do suggest is a good firewall or Routor to hid your pc behind .

(ps my 9600 pro card gets 85 fps crusing and 35 lowest in the most demanding overcrowded skys there is in AH , distance maxed , sliders at 2/3rds )

I WHOLE HEARTEDLY AGREE - do not aat all install Comcast or any cable providers or dsl providers software to hook up to broadband, no cds /no downloads...........

none of it is needed, and it just puts extra BS on your PC...........great advice DREDIOCK wrote here.........

and some routers ( maybe all of them ) have a built in HARDWARE firewall, I use both my hardware firewall along with backup firwall by zonealarm, I disable the firewall in winXP ( or winXP Pro ).........

i'll ad one more thing .. as for all the advise here is good stuff

symantec.com has a online security check that Works Great for testing your setup .. if done right every thing should be "Stealth" or "Closed " (you will fail the AV part though even when running there AV program ) but thats how i check mine (Ive havent caught a bug in over 3 yrs now) Mine all read "Stealth" and i can play ,surf , jump all over the place with no problems .
