Texas dune riding
« on: March 13, 2006, 12:54:07 PM »
Any of you guys into dune riding ever been to the dunes around Kermit ,Texas?
One of the places in Texas you can get in on the action.
It just shows, once again, how fortunate those of us who live or visit Texas are to have such  a varied choice of activities and different landscapes, etc . to choose from. Looks like great fun if you are into dunes.
Some folks would have to do some pretty extensive traveling in order to experience such things.
No doubt, Texas just plain rocks.

MOONRISE IN TEXAS

Full moons can rise like prairie fires,
   Where Texas meets the sky,
And, slowly build to giant pyres.
It so seems to the eye.

And, startled as we watch, they grow,
   'Till wider than the sun,
Then paling, shrink to the moon we know,
   The ordinary one.

   They tell us 'it's illusion,
   A deflection caused by heat,
   And, lunar light's diffusion,
   By dust from cattle's feet.

   Here, science misdirects us,
And, from the truth has shied.
When she gets to shine on Texas,
The moon just swells with pride.

:D

Dunes are awesome.  We have a bunch here in the Mojave as well.  Like the Kelso dunes, tallest in the world I believe.  Dry lakes are ****ing great too, in so many ways.  You haven't lived until you've experienced the desert. :)

Well Saw, actualy the answer to that would be no.
In Texas we have desert lands, grasslands, Pine forests, oak forests, ash forests, on and on and on. We have flatland, hill country, rolling hills, lakes out the yazoo, rivers galore, camping and recreation areas to the max, fishing, hunting, and enough bikini wildlife areas to cause severe eyestrain. :) You get the picture. Just too much to list.
I can`t remember if I`ve brought it up before, but we have just about everything, right here , in the great state of Texas. ;)

lol at the moment we even have dry lake beds around DFW. haha, got a warning for racing out on the ray roberts lake bed. appparently it state wildlife reserve land and 4 or 5 4x4 trucks roaring acrose the lakebed dodging stumps is bad for the wild life. u know what is tho? some dumbarses cut down like 3,000 (not exagerating) trees that have been xposed cause o the drought. once the water heads back in, the fish will have no wher to go. fishihg will suck! time for for unnatural reefs i think.

Yea I know what you mean about that.
Here at Tawakoni we have used the time in our area to do some improvements, dig some canals and desilt a couple of coves on SRA permits while the water level is down. HEHE! I even built one dirt landing strip. I have witnessed what you are talking about as for as tree removal in some areas here on the lake.
On the other hand a lot of us have built some habitat out of brush, etc.
