When I goofed keeping my hot tub water balanced, the local pool expert switched me from shock / sanitizer to chlorine for a few weeks to kill everything, and then back to shock and sanitizer following a good filter cleaning.  You may need to clean out your filter after getting all the green stuff out of the water.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Thanks for the info JAB

It's an above ground pool that's oval shaped It looks about 20 ft long and about 10 ft wide.  The filter is a "sand filter" and it has a pump, automatic inline clorine feeder all fed by a skimmer.

The previous owners left the vacum, brush, hose, and a turtle thing that I assume cleans the bottom.

I have all sorts of chemicals as well  PH+  PH- Algecide, chlorine, pool clear, ect.  And I know what a test kit is but the only thing they left is a bunch of test strips wich I assume only test for PH and CL levels.

On the filter itself there's settings for "Backwash, Filter, Reciprocate?, winterize.  I have no clue how to clean the filter itself, it says it's under pressure so I don't want to just open the sucker up.  Does it actually have a cartrige?

Here's the realtor pics, I still havn't found wich box my camera is in:

That's a pretty big aboveground pool ya got there Guns. Looks about 12 x 20. It's hard to tell without something next to it for reference. Set a couple of these next to it:

I'd like to report some progress with the pool.

It is no longer a dark green but a light aqua/blueish green.  I threw a bunch of shock in there yesturday after adjusting the PH (the acid made cool smoke) and threw in some algecide for good measure.

I've been vacuming the bottom when ever I have downtime.  We've had cloud cover the last couple of days and today we have some sunlight.  I'm hopeing the direct sun will help clear up the cloudyness in the water and I can actually clean the trouble spots.

next I plan on removing the stairs to the pool and cleaning them up good then resinking them with the bricks on the deck....at least I beleive that's what they are there for.

If I remember the shok properly, I would just treat and let it sit then vacuum it up.  Ours was an indoor pool so it was much easier to maintain.

You should take a look at the valve on top of the filter.  Should be backwash and rinse settings.  To clean out the filter, set to backwash until the water runs clean then set to rinse untilit runs clean again then set back to filter.  Back wash basically pumps the water backwards through the filter and blasts the accumulated goo out the waste pipe.

Check with a pool place about how to use and clean your filter. Some filters still use diatamacious (sp?) earth as a filtering media. You definately do not want to flush that stuff into the pool. If the water was pretty nasty with lots of floating gunk in it and the filter is not cleaned fairly often you won't get the water cleaned out.

When you flush you are not dumping it back into the pool.  It goes out a waste line to the ground.

those are sweet, and expensive (for a good one) and the CO2 setup is expensive too (if you are building one).

Yup what rabit said.  I D/Led the instructions for the filter/pump and have been back washing pretty regularly just to start with a clean system.  Fortunaly there's a drainage gully behind my fence so it's easy to do.  We got a ton of rain last night so I've been pumping some of the water out.

Yea mustain I havn't gotten around to clean out the lines but I am going to snag a pennysaver next chance I get to find a fridge for it.
