Saw it posted on another forum. Free French Ace, Spit and Tempest pilot Pierre Clostermann passed away today.
While it has it's faults, "The Big Show" written by Clostermann is one of the classic fighter pilot biographies to come out of WW2

"PARIS (AP) -- Jacques Chirac expressed his "deep sadness" after Wednesday death of the former fighter pilot Pierre Clostermann, which was for the president of the Republic "the incarnation of the hero".
"With him disappears a figure from legend, the Ace of the aces of the Free French Army" of the Second World war, greets the head of the State in an official statement.
Fighter pilot, Pierre Clostermann had cumulated 600 hours of flight of war and 33 victories approved during the Second World war. He had been made companion of the Release by General de Gaulle.
The pilot had drawn from his épopée the work "the Large circus", which was a great success and caused many vocations.
Born in Brazil in 1921, engineer of formation, Pierre Clostermann had been appointed of 1946 to 1969. After the war, it had also continued its career in the aircraft industry.
Pierre Clostermann did not have "of cease to serve France with ardour and talent", greets the minister delegated to Ex-serviceman Hamlaoui Mekachera. "It deserves the admiration and the recognition of our compatriots." AP"
