USN service records...

Hey all, noob here.  Still in my freebie two weeks, but will definately stick around after that's up.  Anyway, I've got a question I figured one of the veterans could prolly answer.  My grandfather flew Navy fighters (all the 'cats from what I've been told) in the Pacific during WW2.  He passed a few years back, and I realize that I never took an opportunity to ask him about some of his experiences.  I was thinking that it would be neat to see his service record or any other documentation related to his wartime actions.

Does anyone know a) if it's possible to do this, b) where/how I would go about procuring his records or c) what I might expect to be able to find?

I just found out my grandfather on moms side was a PFC in the Marines during WWII, you can check here:

for WWII enlistment records... from there I found hes now RIP at Ft. Collons in Colorado.

You can also order old DD214s and the like

Also... you cant go wrong calling the Red Cross, they know all about that stuff and work with the military on these things.

I'd also suggest searches in Google, Yahoo, etc. with your grand-dad's name and any info at all you know about him, rank, unit, and add words like, WWII, Pacific, Hellcat, etc. Who knows. Someone may have an article that has info about his unit with his name. Definitely worth a try.
