Marked Difference in Sound Quality
« on: December 19, 2000, 09:33:00 AM »
Hello friends,

As many of you do, I have custom sounds for my planes.  I download random sounds, and depending on whether I like them, insert them into the appropriate sounds directory.  The player I use to listen to the sounds on my desktop is RealAudio.

Here is my problem.  The sounds as heard with RealAudio sound MUCH better/cleaner/crisper in RealAudio than they do once I insert them into the game.  In the arena, the sounds are a little more muffled and just not quite the same sounds.  This goes for gun sounds and engine sounds.  Anyone have any idea what is causing this?  Sound card?  Settings somewhere?  Thanks for the help ...

With engine sound, its the pitch..
AH uses lower pitch when low throttle and pitch increases while throttle increases.
With gun sounds, you better mix those sounds into smaller pieces.
about 80-120ms sound file for guns is fine.

One other item is the setting for your "equalizer" in Realplayer vs. the setting in Windows.

I use Cooledit to remix all my sounds and tweak em to how I want em.

My favorite sound byte for AH is my Paratrooper Drop wav, here check it out:
