Missing Aircraft for era's
« on: March 20, 2006, 01:34:18 PM »
One of the things the Axis Vs Allies staff have noticed that there are generation gaps in several countries.  These gaps are going to be important to fill, especially when Combat Tour comes on line, but I'm sure HTC is aware of these gaps.

To help out, I've come up with a list for the PTO.  We have a decent set for USN and USAAF from the start of the war until the finish, but the IJA are seriously lacking aircraft.

I had to sub five different aircraft, from two engine medium bombers, to fighters. But, I only needed 5, which is an interesting aspect of my findings. Her is what I needed and what I subbed it with:

- Ki-21 (subbed Bf110C-4b)
- GM4  (subbed JU-88)
- Ki-44 (sub Bf109F-4)
- JM2 Raiden (sub Bf109G-2)
- Ki-100 (sub Fw190A-5)

If I only had these five aircraft, the PTO would of been complete from 1939 until 1945.  What is important to remember, that after 1944, there wasn't a whole lot of new aircraft development in the Axis countries.  You also don't need every variant available: just enough to fill the gaps for our current gamplay.

The GPO (Soviets vs Germany) also has serious planeset gaps. Soviet aircraft needed:
- Mig-3
- Yak-1
- Yak-7
- LaGG-3
- Pe-2
- Tu-2
- DB-3F

You could probably get away with the Mig-3 or Yak1/7 or the Lagg-3. The Pe-2 or the Tu-2 would do as attack aircraft and the DB-3F was the largest produced Soviet level bomber.

Thoughts?

The fighter  planes I would most like to see added are the yak3, ishak, P39, Hurri  2 B (lend lease),   the jack and possibly the tojo.

the lagg3 and mig3 are also there but i doubt they would be used much unless an outbreak of P40 pilots induces the need for more "challenging" aircraft to fly.

Bombers   tu-2, pe 8,  betty (g4m2),

TU2 is a must was used as one of the most common soviet bombers and the fact that AH hasnt got one single soviet bomber (IL2'S dont count)

would be similar to an a20 but it does have cannons in the nose, a couple of gunners, speed and a bigger bomb load out.

Big ask but as you point out Tour of duty in different theatres aside from europe will be a struggle without filling the gaps in the Japanese and soviet planesets.

I-16
Yak-7A
LaGG-3
Yak-1B
La-5
P-39
Yak-9D

Imo the above would be a bare minimum when trying to fill out the gaps in just the fighters category for the VVS. However the number of VVS fighters represented in the game is frankly, meager and puny. Two Yaks and two Las, and one ground attack aircraft.

* The I-16 is often an 'iconic' aircraft which symbolizes the early VVS, just like the Zero is 'iconic' in representing the Imperial Japanese.

* The Yak-7A was originally started as a trainer aircraft, which came to be reconfigured and produced as a fighter on demand , due to the shortage of Yak-1s. IMO it was one of the first VVS fighters to stand any kind of real chance against the more advanced LW fighters, so it should be in.

* The LaGG-3 also stands side-by-side with the I-16s as the 'cannon fodders' and yet real 'workhorses' of the early VVS, and IMO having no LaGG-3s in an early Eastern Front setting is like having no Wildcats or P-40s in an early PTO setting.

* The Yak-1B, La-5, and the P-39 all represent the shifting phase of the VVS when it started to stand up against the LW, between '42 and '43. The Yak-1B is a truly excellent fighter on par with the 109Fs, and were among the best the USSR could produce in 1942. The La-5 is an important intermediate stage where the plane was a significant improvement over its predecessors (the LaGGs), but still lacking (until its ultimate transformation with the coming of the La-5FN).

* The P-39 is a must-have(while it would be categorized as a US plane) - it is THE plane where Soviet aces and legends were born, utilized to its utmost capacity in the VVS, numerous Soviet heroes like Rechkalov and Pokryshkin was born in this plane, and the Soviet elite "Guards" were also flying the P-39s.

* The Yak-9D would represent the beginning of the Yak-9 series, which along with the La-5FN in '43, became the bane of the Luftwaffe, and was destined to ultimately evolve into the Yak-9U. Also a very important plane.

.... and when the above planes become available, is when a few more 'treats' like the Mig-3 or the Yak-3 would be good.

Bruv119,

The Tu-2 was not that common.  It is a 1944 Soviet bomber.  The one you are probably thinking of is the Pe-2, which looks very similar but was used through most of the war.

I would really love to se the J2M Raiden.  In AvA we have little with which to combat a high alt attack.

Japan and Russia both deserve to have some additional planes added...
