Tunable Tokyo Rose

Jackal1 mentioned this in the divebombing buff threads... as comedy, but I thought about it for a minute, and realised players could do it for themselves.

I think it'd be easy to do. Anybody with a second account, and a headphone to headphone cable can do it. Grab a cheap spare pc, laptop, whatever. Log it in to a spare AH account on the pc you're gonna broadcast with, plug the output of the space pc into the mic jack of the account pc. Start winamp with looped Tokyo Rose sound bites and music on the spare pc. Tape down the chan x-mit key on the broadcast pc. Walk off.

As long as it stayed connected, and HTC didn't get mad about taking over a public vox chan, anybody could tune to Tokyo Rose. :)

In fact, with all the neat tools winamp has for voice over, mixing, etc, etc, you could host a live radio show if you wanted to.

Not entirely sure, but isn't there a time limit on vox transmissions?

Hmmm, I think you're right. A little macro program that runs in the background and holds down the V key for the time limit would probably do the trick though. As long as tuneable beeps were turned off, it wouldn't sound too broken either.

Wouldn't something like that take up a fair amount of bandwidth?

Chop, depends entirely on the audience size. There's squad voxes and public chans that move far more traffic. My business class cable @ the office (where I'd stash the pc) has 3mb up & unlimited bandwith. Definately not a problem on my end. However, if it actually works, and had any type of bandwith impact on the game at all, I'd gladly pull the plug. That's assuming HT or Skuzzy didn't simply kick the account offline already.

As is though, I doubt 1 person transmitting non-stop to a handful of players would have any type of impact in an arena I've seen shoot up to over 600 players without any lag increase on my end :)
