I know there's a reason for everything
« on: April 03, 2006, 10:25:30 PM »
so has the reason for the existence of "V" fields ever been announced?

Obviously, all vehicles are available at airfields.

Why are airplanes not available at vehicle fields?

Why not just make all fields capable of launching all vehicles?

There must have been a reason for it but for the life of me I don't remember reading or hearing it.

I think the fights, particularly on the map that is up now with TT in the middle would be better if there were more fields where all vehicles were available.

Anyone remember the reason?

Dunno, my guess would be that it promotes more vehicle v vehicle battles?

But then...adding aircraft to the V-fields (making them Airfields) would not in any way prohibit the same vehicle vs vehicle battles that occur on the map right now.

AND

this is the TANKTOWN map. Seems there's a specific, dedicated spot for that in any event.

HT has a reason for everything, but like I said, I don't remember why we needed specific "GV only" fields.

Hmmmm, interesting. I seem to recall a time (maybe just a particular terrain) when V bases had 1 or 2 planes enabled. I don't believe it was all the terrains, but in AH1 you could scramble 1 or 2 plane types from some vehicle bases.

It was OZKansas ... when the map came back in AH II ... the planes were gone and never really knew why.

You could up a Hurri 2D and it was a bug if I recall.

HA! I vaguely remembered something accurately for once!

Still though, I would think that was intentional. The hurri2D is about as specialized as AH gets, and I thought having it, or the planes like it, at V bases would be a given.

Anyway, add that to the list of things that aren't readily apparent in here, I guess.

Because they weren't supposed to be enabled.

I've asked a couple of times to be allowed to turn on planes in TT that are only small threats to the GVs. It would give the GV guys some options vs. the weiners that insist on hauling bombs in there.

IMHO I believe that a few attack style aircraft available at V bases would make things interesting. They could provide recon and some air / Gv protection. I am not certain that all WWII aircraft had the ability to take off from unimproved air strips, and this should be a limiting factor as to the aircraft availability. (I question the ability of some aircraft to take off directly out of the hangers on air bases, cutting across the field?)
Another limiting factor to aircraft at bases should be that because of the usually remotes location of the V bases, there should be limited ordinance available. Perhaps only rockets and 250 lbs bombs?

How about introducing a Storch and a Piper and
have them available at V bases to provide
air recon.  Would sure make it easier for defending
GV's to ambush & defend against an armored assault.

enabling fighters at the TT bases on trinity would be fun... just don't enable ord/bombers, and it won't really affect the GV's much. The guys strafing tanks in 110's would get molested by fighters as soon as they're in icon range, and they just tickle tanks to death anyway.

It wasnt a bug. Fester did it on purpose that way. 2D with 40mm was meant for GV attack. But skuzzy got too many complaints from the roach coach drivers.

There's still dozens of aircraft that haven't been modeled that are much more urgently needed to fill holes in the plane set.

Any aircraft can do recon. Flick switch for ground view, roll right 90, hat switch right. Done correctly, you'll see the enemy gv's driving past beneath you... or you'll be staring down Zazen's or an LTAR's barrel.
