On December 16th, a tornado tore its way through north Alabama, taking out many homes. This tornado passed within 1/2 of my home, There were at least 10 homes (not mobile homes) that were destroyed close to me.

This one particular home was about 5 years old, and belonged to a young couple. The young man was gone to the dentist, and his wife was gone Christmas shopping. While they were away, their home took the full force of the tornado. Was their roof gone? The walls too? No. Not only that, their home was completely and utterly destroyed, not just destroyed, but g-o-n-e. All the way down to the floor of their house being gone. I was their about 30 minutes after the tornado hit, the only things left on their property were the foundation walls, the branches of some shrubs, and the young mans '94 Ford F-150, which was sitting inside the foundation where the kitchen used to be. That trucks gotta be totaled! ya say. Neg. Here's a picture of it sitting in our shop today. It's gonna fix. Although she's gonna have to have some panels replaced and lotsa new glass, and refinished, this Ford musta loved life, there were skid marks on the drive where it sat, they dead end, meaning this truck was actually airborne, then came to rest where the house was!

Henry woulda been proud!

FORD LOVER HERE! Cool story!

Funny, I've had great luck with Ford Trucks, but lousy luck with Ford cars...visa versa for Chevy's (Bad luck with Chevy Trucks, good luck with Chevy cars)

That's very true, drove beaters for years, not because I couldn't afford a new car, its because I ruled the road, merging into traffic? No Problem!  Cars give you alot of room when your car is a beater.  Parking tight, but your large 4 door beater will fit in that compact spot, never mind door dings!

Beaters are cool...and cost efficient, low cost of tab renewals, low insurance, fat chicks dig 'em.   (Added that last one in for you FDB's)

I used to drive a thunderchicken ( 91 model ) - most comfy car i ever drove, but once it started breaking - it litterly fell apart.
After doing a head gasket and two trainy jobs on it - i've decided i had too much. Bought a VW Jetta and haven't had a problem since.

I'm never against buying "Made in USA" car...

But I have had a 1967 FORD 1/2ton pickup forever and abuse it daily and the damned thing will not break!

Rip, I totally agree, Chevy cars, Ford trucks.

Well, personally, I don't judge a car by the country its made in, seems alittle rediculous to do so, as I could say the same thing about German cars with the bad luck I've had with them (one BMW and a Volkswagon)...however, I know that some cars are just plain lemons!

OTOH, if I *were* to purchase a car (I am a truck person because of practicality,i.e. I cannot use a car for towing my 19' trailer, boat, hauling dirt, landscaping, etc.)..I would probably buy another BMW, but a later model that hasn't been owned 3 times...they are a fine passenger car, as a matter of fact I think Europe kicks our prettythang in passenger cars for reliability, however, the cost combine with the cost of maintainence is prohibitive in my check book.

Gimme an American-made Pick up truck, let me put 150,000 miles on it, then trade it in for a new one...saves me money in the long run for maintainence costs and practicality for my life sytle...

LOL my brother had a 67' with a 2bbl 390 4-speed. It was one of the fastest stock pick-ups I've ever ridden in. We burried the speedo on it many times (120mph speedo). I raced a 79' Z28 on the highway and beat it. LOL It was just an old beater farm truck. We took it out through the sage brush at 40mph many times with all four wheels in the air and never hurt it. LOL. I would have loved to have seen what it would do with even just a 4bbl carb. I had a friend in high school that had a 68' or 69' with a 352 2bbl 4-speed and it ran just as good. I had a 64' Chevy 3/4 ton with a HOT 283 in it and I raced him one time. He had his John Deere riding lawn mower in back with a load of grass clipping and a bad fuel pump and STILL beat me. LOL!
