Well, here I spent the better part of two days getting my new computer running stabile with my AMD Athlon 3800+ X2 Manchester processor, 2 gigs Corsair XMS dual channel RAM, with an XFX GeoForce 6600GT video card, and now at the oddest times the screen switches back to my desktop as if I had pressed the special "windows key" on the keyboard. ODD...... If you just press the Enter key the games comes right back on until it does it again and it might be soon or it might be some time. Like I said, it is very irratic and unpredictable, but, is quite annoying in the heat of conflict........ NO PUN INTENDED.
I have run Aces High using the Environment (Windows98/ME) trick out of properties and also downloaded that really great free program for Windows XP that you can specify how many processors will be utilized for a specified program. In addition, I have deleted the /usepmtimer out of the boot.ini file, as well as turning off the Cool'n Quiet feature. Basically, I have tried everything I have been able to read here in the forum about dual cores and most especially with the AMD chips. The only comforting thing is that I am not alone by a long shot and evidently for some time now. Using either method allows me to run Aces High with fast responses, great graphics, and at least a 60 fps frame rate. However, the aforementioned events still happen no matter what hot fix is utilized and with or without the other "tweeks" that have been recommended.
I just don't have a clue now......... It had been working so good the day before and now this.
Thanks for all of your support........your kind expedient response to my initial query is much appreciated..... Like I said, thought my probs were over and now this..... Hope some one can offer another successful solution.
