Dumb Avatar Question
« on: April 12, 2006, 03:18:51 PM »
Hi Guys,

I've been trying to replace my Avatar (I'm trying to get the largest view of Rembrandt's "Paul in Prison") and I've noticed that the best I can get is 64x64 which seems to be smaller than many of the Avatars on the BB. I get hamstrung by this even when the file size is much less than 30K. Is there a recommended program for avatar design? Any hints on getting the most out of the Avatar design?

My hint: pictures of hot babes usually work better than Dutch Baroque masterworks.

Unless it's a picture of a hot babe done by a Dutch Baroque Master.

your's "looks" smaller because it is narrower.

if you were to stretch it to 64 wide it would look funny. thats the hard part of non-square images for avatards.

Yep.

You could always center it on a regular sized background of your choice (color, details, whatever) to make it look the same size as everyone else's.  I think that would look pretty nice centered on a black background, personally.

lost some color because i did this just in paint:

some pics just have too much detail to size properly for these 64x64 avatards.

sometimes i wish HTC would allow 100x100 and 60k file sizes just for some more detail, or fun ;)

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the assistance, I especially appreciate the animated gif Eskimo. For the moment, I'm still a boring "static" kind of guy, but I'll be using it if that changes. Which program do you guys use to create animated gifs?
