Yup. I always thought Robert Duvall was a great actor, and he proved it in that movie. He nailed that character to a T. That's one of those movies you watch twice.   My wife and I did.

I thought it was a rediculous movie. But to each his/her own. It doesnt paint the best picture of a mna whos job has always been one considered highest in respect. I think it poorly steriotypes Evangelistic preachers.

I think I know where you're coming from ammo. But I think the character was meant to be an imperfect man. He lost his cool and did a bad thing, then the rest of the movie was about him coming to terms with it. I liked the character played by Billy Bob Thornton, and Duvall standing his ground.

How in the world did you not like it?

Very good flick.  As for negative stereotyping, I dunno.  I suppose you could watch any movie that portrays any priest/preacher/etc... as capable of sin and say it is a negative stereotype.

To me, that was part of the challenge of the movie.  To watch a complex character that was capable of incredible acts of good and bad and deciding whether or not he was ultimately able to redeem himself.
