AH2 lockups
« on: April 18, 2006, 01:17:18 PM »
Greetings and thanks in advance for any advice,

I have been suffering sporadic lockups recently while playing both online and offline.  I'll be flying along ( or at times in the hanger doing nothing ) when I'll get an audio loop followed by a frozen screen that eventually either crashes to the desktop or completely locks the system.  By audio loop I mean something to the effect of "check that spit,,,check that spit,,,check that spit" or whatever happens to have been the last thing said on vox.

I been over the forums and have done the obvious turning off of the firewalls and AV programs but I'm a bit confused regarding the video settings I should be using. Based on the below configuration what video settings ( preload options, AA, AF, etc ) should I be using.  I should mention that I have comcast cable connection and that all available driver and firmware updates have been attempted, with the exception of using catalyst 4.12 drivers for the vidcard.

Gigabyte K8NS-pro Mboard
Athlon 64 2800+ Newcastle
3 gigs of Crucial 3200 ddr
Sapphire 9600pro 256 mb agp  catalyst 4.12 drivers
Audigy 2 sound card – internal
2 Maxtor 80 gig HD – Raid0

Any thoughts would be appreciated,,,,Skuzzy???,,,,,

Thanks and cyaup ( at least until the system crashes again ), cpthowdy
Luck had nothing to do with it. Neither did skill. I really have no idea what did have to do with it. What was the question again?

Set maximum texture size to 512.
Check the preload into system RAM option.
DO NOT check the preload into video card RAM option

If you are running any AA, then set the maximum texture size to 256 for best performance.

You have enough system RAM to preload skins.
