Sappers!
« on: April 15, 2006, 05:56:39 PM »
Ok... i've been thinking that adding sappers to the game would be fun and could potentially make the Jeep a little more useful.

My idea is this.  Allow the jeep to carry 3 sappers (It can already carry 3 troops, so thats where the number came from).  These guys could be carried by the jeep into combat and released to attack parked tanks.  The jeep driver could drive within 800 of a enemy tank, somehow identify it as the target (click with a mouse or something? i dunno) and release the sapper.  The sapper would then run from the jeep and plant an explosive on the tank.  The explosive should at the least disable, and or maybe kill the tank.  Afterwards, the sapper could be picked back up or not... i dunno, i'll put that to the committee...

Anyway,  it wouldn't be too easy to get kills with a jeep... driving a jeep that close would be a challenge and the tank could still defend itself with it's pintel gun if he see's the sapper approaching.  But it could still be fun.

I have no idea how much coding would be involved... probably a ton.  But I thought it could be fun...

Thoughts?:aok

how about all 3 guys are an AT squad with a bazooka or panzerfaust? and they come out the back and line up for the shot but takes like 5 shots to kill a panzer and from the rear would be easier.

LOL Meatwad...

Just to be clear, I wasn't suggesting that the guys be player controlled... just sort of a point, click, let them run kind of thing... but I get your point Meat

Thanks for considering the idea guys :aok

Oh and JimBeam... I love my video card.  If you can get one for cheap I say go for it. But the x850 is quite a bit better and not much more expensive.  I went with the this particular x800 (Gigabyte Technologies) because it doesnt have a fan on it (just a massive heatsync) so it's really quite.  I get frame rates in the high 80's at altitude, and when i'm over a buring field with smoke and gv's and AA fireing all over it only dips into the 50's... and I have my video settings turned up pretty high (6x Anit-Aliasing, 8x Anisotropic Filtering, MipMap set on high quality etc).
