Article on SF Medics from the Local Paper
« on: April 24, 2006, 10:54:51 PM »
Hi Guys,

Thought one or two of you might be interested in this article from the Fayetteville Observer on the training of Green Beret medics - 18 Deltas. One of the "central characters" in it, Chris Meeker, is a part of our congregation. Chris is ex-airforce and had felt called to go into the ministry and was working on completing his M.Div at RPTS in Pittsburgh when the invasion of Iraq started. Chris decided at that point that if the nation was at war, then he needed to be serving in the military again. Interestingly enough the friend (who is mentioned in the article) who told him about the program is also in our congregation.

Thanks Guys, will do. In addition to Chris, we have a couple of other 18-Deltas training in the congregation and 2 SF medics already deployed to Afghanistan.

BTW - the last paragraph of the article is no exageration, one of our Elders is an SF Dentist in Afghanistan, he is currently spending about 12-14 hours of every day treating Afghan villagers. Sadly, his says the level of Afghan healthcare has been so bad for so long that by the time they come to him, the offending teeth are so rotten that all you can do is pull them.

Needless to say, the Taliban trained in Pakistan by Saudi funded Madrassas, send in no medics to help the people and spend much of their time blowing up or destroying what little healthcare and education the country has. Were the conflict not over the ideology that has dominated the country for centuries, this would be the simplest "hearts and minds" operation in SF history because the bad guys really do offer nothing but pain, oppression, poverty, starvation, ignorance, and endless misery.

Ditto for me as well please. That was a good article and I am so pleased a civilian hospital is doing what it can to not only treat their own patients but train medics to do their best for our troops. to them!
