Need Assistance Finding Maps!
« on: April 20, 2006, 11:33:30 AM »
Hello all, im not sure where to post this one. But I know the AHII TE forum is the wrong place. Not enough people drop by for me to get any reliable information.

Anyways. I have been searching for 2 days now trying to get maps of Malta from WWII. All I can get is a close-up of sicilly with malta peeking out on the bottom.

Well, that's not gonna cut it. I need a close-up WWII historical map of Malta that has details such as airfield locations and port locations. This is all necessary for a new malta map im making. I already have the terrain, just now I need the airfields and ports!

Thanks for all the info, and don't be surprised to find NOTHING in Google!

You can probably find that info. in history books of WWII or Malta. FWIW Warbirds has just such a map, and I think you can download it from iEN's website, or one of the independent resource sites that they have. (You should be able to open it with Paint Shop Pro or equivalent program). I have lost all that info, so you will have to fish around the iEN (Warbirds) website. Most players thought the terrain was crappy (and it is), but I think that the placement of airfields and vehicle bases is correct.

While you are there, you might want to check out their forums page as well for advice on maps. Anyone can post there.

Aces High must have just such a map, because we had a scenario (Fire Over Malta) recently.

Yes, what most people dont realise is im making this a type of "King of the Hill" scenario. The Axis forces (Bishops) will have around 10 carrier fleets on a 128 square mile map. Then malta fills a 25 square mile area. The objective is that the Bishops try to capture all the British (Knight's) Bases. That's why I need the info on airfields and ports.

Also, just to clear this up. This is an H2H-based scenario. Not a Aces High CM Scenario type deal. This also reffers back to one of my old posts trying to get the guns on carriers to hide in the woods to make it more difficult to capture the bases.

Anyways, thanks for the useful tip, i'll look into it!:) :D

Bogie, the above site was useful to us when we built the Italy terrain. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of graphical info. This is probably the best you'll find from that site...

Those are the airfields, and there were ports in Kalafrana Bay and in the Valetta Grand Harbor.

The one-mile terrain tile resolution of the TE makes it hard to model those accurately, if you are building it to 1:1 scale, that is.

"Merlins over Malta" was another interesting site... give that a Google.

Hope this helps. :)

Also, another thing. I'm not aiming for 100% accuracy. But is there a way I can reduce it from a 1 mile tile to a smaller one? Because you mentioned me building it on a 1:1 scale. So, im wondering if there's a way to reduce it perhaps.

Sorry... the tile is a mile and will be for a while. :(

Maybe someday we'll get smaller increments.

Thanks for all the assistance. But I already got what I needed earlier and within one week I released my latest map. To read about it. Look in the AHII Terrain Editor or the Free Multiplayer forums. I'll post something on it.:aok Thanks for all the help folks
